Structural Engineer

Catena consulting engineers is an award‑winning structural engineering firm located in Portland, Oregon. We are seeking early-career structural engineers to join our team. Our projects range from the small to the complex with construction values exceeding $400 million.

Engineers at Catena work directly with firm Principals who remain actively involved in project design and mentorship. Because of our small firm environment, engineers are exposed to a wide range of materials, project types, and responsibilities, and are involved in projects from early design through construction.

• Work directly with experienced Principals and senior engineers, gaining hands‑on experience through active mentorship and real project involvement, with opportunities to contribute to structural design and take increasing ownership as you gain experience
• Exposure to diverse and technically challenging building projects across multiple sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, and retrofit projects utilizing a wide range of materials such as steel, concrete, timber, and masonry

• Perform structural analysis and engineering calculations using structural design software and hand calculations
• Develop structural design concepts, calculations, and technical reports
• Assist in preparation of structural construction documents using Revit
• Coordinate structural design with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines
• Participate in site visits and structural observations of construction progress
• Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs
• Support project teams through all phases from schematic design through construction

• 0–4 years of professional structural engineering experience
• BS in Architectural Engineering (structural focus), or MS or M.Eng in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Passed FE exam or working toward EIT certification
• Strong foundation in structural engineering fundamentals
• Knowledge of IBC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, and NDS design codes
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience using Revit and Bluebeam Revu preferred
• Self‑motivated with a desire to learn and grow
