POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Chief Financial Officer provides strategic financial leadership for the University, ensuring fiscal sustainability, regulatory compliance, and institutional effectiveness. This role leads financial planning, budgeting, audit, risk management, and business office modernization, with emphasis on automation, revenue integrity, and decision support for leadership.
This position has an option to work hybrid or remote.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as principal financial advisor to the President and Board.
- Lead financial forecasting (including multi-year strategies), cash planning, and scenario modeling.
Financial Management & Compliance
- Oversee monthly financial statements, cash flow, and balance sheet integrity.
- Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations.
- Manage audits, tax filings, federal draw downs (G5, HSS), debt, and regulatory reporting.
- Maintain strong internal controls and risk management practices.
Business Office Modernization
- Redesign AP, AR, and billing workflows to maximize automation in MIP/Abila, Core Campus, and Epic/OCHIN.
- Reduce manual processes and spreadsheet dependency.
- Implement financial dashboards for leadership.
Revenue & Operations Oversight
- Supervise the Revenue Manager.
- Ensure tuition, clinic, grants, and auxiliary revenue streams are optimized.
Leadership & Governance
- Present financial reports to the Cabinet and Board.
- Partner with HR, Advancement, and Academic leadership on resource planning.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA/MBA preferred.
- 5+ years senior financial leadership experience.
- Higher education or healthcare finance experience strongly preferred.
