Wright-Ryan Construction is seeking an experienced, strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our executive leadership team. As CFO, you will shape the financial direction of a respected, employee-owned construction company known for quality craftsmanship, strong relationships, and sustainable growth.

The CFO will partner with company leadership and operational teams to drive profitability, guide strategic decision-making, manage enterprise risk, and support long-term growth across multiple business lines. As an employee-owned company, the CFO also plays a key role in overseeing the company’s Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and ensuring long-term financial stability for the organization and its employee-owners.

Job Requirements
  • Lead the company’s overall financial strategy, ensuring strong cash flow, profitability, and long-term financial stability across all business lines.
  • Manage enterprise risk, including insurance, bonding capacity, and financial compliance, while maintaining strong relationships with providers and sureties.
  • Oversee and manage the company’s investment portfolio and capital allocation strategies to optimize returns and support growth.
  • Administer and provide strategic oversight of the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), including share valuation, share price determination, repurchase obligations, and loan management.
  • Develop and execute strategic initiatives through participation in the corporate strategic planning process in partnership with other leaders.
  • Develop and manage annual and monthly budgets for internal departments and multiple business units, driving accountability and cost control.
  • Deliver accurate, timely monthly financial statements, WIP reports, and performance dashboards to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Monitor project performance through job cost tracking, percentage-of-completion accounting, and profitability analysis to protect margins.
  • Lead and develop the finance team to ensure high performance and operational excellence.
  • Oversee AR, AP, and working capital management to maintain liquidity and meet operational demands.
  • Establish financial discipline through standardized policies, internal controls, and documented SOPs for accounting, payroll, and reporting functions.
Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of financial leadership experience, including senior roles such as Controller, VP of Finance, or CFO.
  • Direct experience in the general contracting or construction industry required.
  • Experience with ESOP oversight and administration strongly preferred.
  • CPA or other financial certification is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of construction accounting, including job cost accounting, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, margin analysis, and cash flow management.
  • Strong understanding of bonding, insurance, banking relationships, and financial compliance.
  • Experience translating financial data into actionable business insights that guide operational decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to executive leadership and Board members.
