Role SummaryThe Director Finance Labor Productivity & Benchmarking is responsible for advancing labor productivity as a core operational finance discipline across assigned ministries, translating worked hours, premium pay, agency usage, volume, acuity, and unit-of-service trends into clear, actionable opportunities for leaders.
Key Responsibilities- Own labor productivity as an operational finance discipline, translating worked hours, premium pay, agency usage, volume, acuity, and unit-of-service trends into clear opportunities that leaders can act on.
- Build credible benchmarking that leaders trust, comparing departments, facilities, service lines, and external benchmarks while adjusting for operational differences such as patient mix, acuity, staffing models, geography, regulatory requirements, and service intensity.
- Partner directly with operators, nursing, clinical leaders, HR, and finance, explaining variances without blame, challenging assumptions, and turning productivity findings into practical staffing and workflow decisions.
- Move beyond "hours per unit" into root-cause analysis, investigating drivers of labor variation including volume changes, scheduling practices, overtime, call-offs, skill mix, contract labor, sitters, care model design, throughput issues, and inconsistent unit-of-service definitions.
- Develop tools, governance, and routines that sustain performance improvement, maintaining productivity standards, monthly review processes, dashboards, action plans, accountability forums, and savings validation.
Other responsibilities include financial oversight of assigned ministries, monitoring financial performance, variance reporting, supporting productivity and supply chain targets, and participating in ministry-level management meetings.
The Director serves as a key liaison to accounts payable and payroll processes in support of managers and senior leaders throughout the ministries and supports facilitation of capital projects as approved through regional and system processes.
As part of the regional finance team, the Director assists with development of ministry budgets and provides support to ministry senior management teams and departmental leaders working toward annual and long‑term strategies. Primary responsibilities also include development and management of dashboards, supporting internal audit recommendations, leading special projects at ministry and regional levels, reviewing monthly financial statements, and partnering with the PSJH accounting team to ensure accuracy.
FinancialOversight & Performance
- Assist the Service Area Chief Financial Officer, senior operational leaders, and other executives in financial oversight of assigned ministries.
- Monitor financial performance to ensure achievement of financial targets.
- Review monthly financial statements and ensure accurate representation of operational and clinical services.
- Assist in production of accurate financial statements, including contractual analysis, other net income, and expense accruals.
- Review and monitor statistical information to ensure accurate reflection of operational and clinical services.
- Collaborate with regional finance team in budgeting and strategic financial planning for assigned ministries.
- Perform budget variance analysis and support development and implementation of improvement plans.
- Coordinate monthly financial review process with ministry leadership.
- Support productivity management through measurement processes, target setting, and benchmarking.
- Assist leaders with implementation of staffing matrices.
- Participate in ministry management meetings.
- Support review of institute (service line) financial information to inform operational plans and understand service line economics.
