Summary

The Credit Analyst III collaborates with relationship managers to evaluate commercial credit information, prepare financial spreads, author comprehensive analysis reports, and manage risk ratings for a variety of commercial and real estate borrowers.

Responsibilities
  • Read, review, and understand diverse financial statements and related documentation, including tax returns, balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and credit reports.
  • Prepare financial spreads for commercial, real estate, municipal, non‑profit, and individual borrowers or guarantors.
  • Analyze creditworthiness of applicants by spreading historical and projected financial statements, calculating cash flows, leverage, liquidity ratios, evaluating collateral, researching borrower and industry risk factors, and identifying risks.
  • Author comprehensive analysis reports incorporating data visualizations and written narrative.
  • Determine appropriate risk rating based on recent financial information.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations and First Interstate Bank credit policy requirements.
  • Assist Relationship Managers with quarterly monitoring reports and financial covenant testing.
  • Participate in the quality control program, reviewing general forms, spreads, and analysis, and providing feedback and mentoring.
  • Develop and deliver training materials through various channels.
  • Mentor lower‑level analysts to enhance credit acumen.
  • Act as a resource for Relationship Managers and other analysts on loan policy, structuring, and underwriting recommendations.
Qualifications
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to develop and maintain internal and external relationships with Relationship Managers, Credit Officers, and Risk Management personnel.
  • Capacity to work in a fast‑paced environment, prioritize tasks, and meet strict deadlines with flexibility.
  • Self‑motivated with a strong credit risk decision support mindset.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Rapid adaptation to other software applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field.
  • 7–9 years of banking experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4–6 years of experience in a comparable role.
  • Experience with financial spread software.
  • Commercial banking experience preferred.
Physical Demands

Frequent use of keyboard and mouse; occasional lifting up to 10 lbs; sitting for extended periods; moderate noise level; regular Monday‑Friday 8‑5 schedule; requires reliable attendance.
