Position: Councilor - District 4

Metro Councilor for District 4

On June 2, 2026, Juan Carlos González, Metro Councilor for District 4, resigned from his position. He was sworn into office as Metro Council President the same day. To fill the vacancy Metro Councilor for District 4, Metro Council must appoint a new District 4 Councilor by August 31, 2026.

On May 19, 2026, voters in District 4 cast their ballots for an incoming Metro Councilor. The results of that election will be certified June 15, 2026. If a primary candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, they will become the next elected Metro Councilor for District 4 beginning January 4, 2027. If no primary candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, the top two candidates will advance to a run-off election on November 3, 2026, and the winner will become the next elected Metro Councilor on January 4, 2027.

This application and appointment process is for the vacancy in the Office of Metro Councilor for District 4 only until the newly elected Councilor is sworn in on January 4, 2027. The position will begin as early as July 9, 2026, and must be filled no later than August 31, 2026.

The Metro Council is the only directly elected regional government in the United States. The Metro Council consists of a president, elected region wide, and six councilors who are elected by district every four years in nonpartisan races. The Council works with community leaders and constituents across city and county boundaries.

The Council's meetings take place both in person and online. Council work sessions and business meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays take place in person at Metro Regional Center in the council chamber and online via Zoom.

This position is a part-time and will be primarily based onsite at the Metro Regional Center, giving the opportunity to stay connected to daily operations and collaborate closely with staff in a collaborative environment. We also offer flexibility for hybrid work, when possible, in alignment with operational needs.

To be eligible for the Metro Council, an applicant or candidate must be a qualified elector and shall have resided during the preceding 12 months within the boundaries of District 4 as they exist when the term of office begins.

The winner of the primary or general election for District 4 will serve until January 6, 2031. The Metro Council will hold a public hearing, conduct candidate interviews and vote on candidates on July 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will be conducted at Beaverton City Hall in District 4 and will be available online via Zoom.
