Early Childhood Policy Advisor; Temporary​/Limited

About the Position

The Early Childhood Policy Advisor will serve as temporary backfill for an employee out on leave. For a period of 3-4 months, this person will support CI’s legislative session strategy and serve as CI’s primary contact for Phase 2 of the Governor’s Early Childhood Care and Learning Systems Roundtable.
The Early Childhood Policy Advisor should have previous experience in policy and advocacy, legislative affairs, stakeholder engagement, and experience working with the Oregon Legislature, elected officials, political partners, or state government.

• Track Oregon legislative session activity (bills, hearings, committee schedules, deadlines, amendments) relevant to CI’s policy priorities.

• Coordinate legislative session calendars, meetings, hearings, testimony, lobby days, legislator visits, and other advocacy activities.

• Prepare and organize briefing materials, talking points, meeting agendas, testimony support materials, and other tools for meetings with legislators, government officials, coalition partners, and community stakeholders.

• Monitor policy developments and communicate timely updates, decisions needed, action items, and next steps to internal and external partners.

• Coordinate with policy coalition partners and community organizations to support aligned advocacy activities, information sharing, and participation in the legislative process.
• Support partners to engage in advocacy at the state level/
• Work with the communications team on communications related to legislative developments, advocacy opportunities, and community stories.

• Serve as CI’s primary contact for the Governor’s Roundtable, a convening that brings together subject matter experts around shared priorities.

• Attend Governor’s Roundtable meetings and participate in agenda development and note-taking, with the objective to provide synthesized summaries and clear action items.

• Provide support for some logistics needed at Roundtable meetings, hosting break-out conversations, creating surveys, drafting materials, and day-of staffing.

• Partner with Director of Policy & Advocacy on community engagement efforts related to priorities or initiatives that are a result of the Governor’s Roundtable.

• 3+ years of experience in policy, advocacy, legislative affairs, government relations, or a closely related field.

• Experience working with the Oregon Legislature, elected officials, state government, political partners, or legislative coalitions strongly preferred.

• Existing relationships with early childhood partners across Oregon strongly preferred.

• Excellent skills in organization, communication, facilitation, and coordination of complex projects.

• Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and explain complex policy.

• Mostly sedentary work; using standard office equipment including: a computer, keyboard, and telephone.
• Hybrid expectations: 3 days onsite at our downtown Portland office
• Occasional travel across Oregon.

• Pay:
  Equivalent of $95,000 to $105,000 annually (paid as a monthly exempt salary)
