Function/Duties of Position

Under direct supervision, primarily performs basic research or lab activities similar to a Research Assistant 1 or Lab Aide. Research at the OHSU‑SOD will include not only basic bench work in the laboratory but also learning how to design experiments: independently using instrumentation and performing basic laboratory techniques such as pipetting and buffering solutions with a pH meter, generating and analyzing data from experiments and collected health surveys.

This will include lab meetings and learning how to keep a lab notebook and daily log of activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in High school or an undergraduate program with a minimum of 6 credit hours
  • Demonstratable record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance
  • 1 year of high school level sciences such as biology or chemistry
  • Know how to use basic instrumentation in a laboratory and calculate basic math equations used to make buffers
