Overview
Loyal Source Government Services is looking for 1 full-time Ultrasound Technologist to perform diagnostic imaging procedures in Portland, Oregon.
Job Summary:Ultrasound Technologist must provide professional medical services and quality care to our Veteran population. Located at the VA Portland Health Care System in Portland, Oregon. Contractors are required to deliver high-quality, compassionate, and consistent care to individuals.
Pay Rate
: $49 / hr
- Performs standard and complex ultrasound examinations, including examinations of the abdomen, liver, renal, GYN and small parts scanning.
- Performs computer work and required forms associated with patient exams, complications and/or quality improvement activities. Responsible for the quality assurance of the image (positioning/label/technique/network information) prior to transmission to the PAC's (Picture archiving communication system) network.
- Schedules exams in a manner to optimize scanner times while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases. This requires the ability to prioritize scheduled patients as well as the ability to accommodate the emergency patient.
- Confers with radiologists to determine requirement of nonstandard exams. Schedules patients for examinations, advises radiologists or referring physicians of examination results and notifies the radiologist of scans requiring immediate attention.
- Practices radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self. This is achieved by the use of lead aprons, lead gloves, proper exposure factor and equipment, lead shields, lead lined walls and collimation. Must assure compliance to radiation regulations to wear film badges and be aware of and practice the safety policies and procedures of the medical center and participate in quality assurance activities as directed.
- Maintains records and files of exams performed on patients. This includes the maintenance of patient logbooks, registration and editing of patient exams in the computerized information system, copying of images (to CD or film), logging patients on the Hospital information system – Radiology information system (HIS-RIS) (switching to Cerner soon) work list.
- Properly identifies patient images. This is essential so that mistaken identity of patient images does not occur. The technician must be certain that the patient I.D. band and the request are identical.
- Responsible to explain exams to competent patients so that patients understand what is to be done as well as what hazards, if any, are possible.
- Performs irregular hour emergency scans on standby/on call, 24 hours per day, coverage.
- Works independently and reports any unusual problems or conflicts to the Imaging Chief Technologist.
- Must be registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Abdomen/Small Parts and at least two separate certifications, such as RVT, OB/GYN, Muscular Skeletal, etc.
- Must have a BCLS certification and demonstrate expertise in ultrasounds of scrotum, pelvis and U/S guided biopsy, including liver and renal biopsies of native and transplanted organs, renal artery stenosis and renal Doppler.
- Must have a minimum 3 years of hospital experience within the United States.
- Must have worked within a hospital setting as an Ultrasound Tech in the last six months.
- Provide evidence of current professional liability insurance.
- Be available to work for the VA at least six (6) months after starting date.
- Must have worked within a hospital lab setting as a Vascular Ultrasound Tech in the last six months
- Must have an active BLS/AHA (preferred) certification
- 8 hour-shifts are typically 5 days per week with 30-minute lunch break.
- 9 hour-shifts are typically a rotating 4 day and 5 day per week with a 30-minute lunch break.
- 10 hour-shifts are typically a 4-day week.
- Rotating weekends and Holidays shifts may be required, and hours will vary.
W2 pay package with paid leave, holidays and eligibility for health insurance options.
