Summary

This position serves as the Lead Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position - applicants must meet all time-in-grade & specialized experience requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement - 02/27/2026. Time‑In‑Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time‑in‑grade requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. For a GS‑06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS‑05. The grade may have been in any occupation – but must have been held in the Federal service.

An SF‑50 that shows your time‑in‑grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF‑50 has an effective date within the past year it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one‑year time‑in‑grade – as required by the announcement. In this instance you must provide an additional SF‑50 that clearly demonstrates one‑year time‑in‑grade.

Time‑In‑Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized

Experience:

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS‑05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include – but are not limited to:
Distributing supplies and materials – including sterile and non‑sterile medical supplies – instrument sets and equipment – to all areas of the facility; scanning, bar‑coding, receiving, storing and distribution of supplies and materials; assisting in training new employees; maintaining current knowledge and answering questions on procedures, policies, etc.; maintaining stock by pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels;

monitoring expiration dates and rotating stock; cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and receiving supplies and material into the facility. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience – including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g. professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Duties
  • As a Lead Supply Technician you will ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including but not limited to sterile and non‑sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment.
  • Major duties and responsibilities include: distribute and balance workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and assure timely accomplishment of assigned workload.
  • Monitor status and progress of work and make day‑to‑day adjustments in accordance with established priorities.
  • Maintain current knowledge and answer questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives or other guidelines as necessary and obtain needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems.
