Overview
Relay Resources is seeking a highly experienced Process Engineer – People, Pay & Controls to define, document, and operationalize target-state HR, payroll-adjacent, and finance-control processes as part of a broader ERP and Data Ecosystem transformation. This role is responsible for ensuring that people and payroll processes are designed correctly before being embedded into systems such as UKG Pro and Net Suite, and that those processes support auditability, security, and long-term scalability.
Responsibilities- Target-State Process Design (Primary Accountability)
- Design and document future-state processes across:
Hire-to-retire lifecycle;
Job, position, and org structure management;
Time & attendance to payroll handoffs;
Payroll-to-GL and labor cost allocation;
Access approvals and role-based controls;
Ensure processes are designed for UKG Pro and Net Suite, not constrained by how UKG Ready operates today;
Identify and eliminate manual workarounds and control gaps - People, Pay & Controls Focus
- Define payroll-adjacent processes that support:
Accurate financial reporting;
Proper approvals and segregation of duties;
Audit and compliance requirements - Partner with Finance to ensure:
Payroll postings and labor costing are correctly controlled;
Month-end and audit processes are supported by system-driven workflows;
Ensure HR and Finance processes align cleanly across systems - System & Data Alignment
- Work closely with: UKG Pro Configuration Manager to ensure processes are correctly translated into system configuration;
Net Suite Finance Config Manager on payroll and labor costing touchpoints;
Data Architect to ensure process outputs align with enterprise data models;
Validate that process designs support integrations and reporting needs - Change Management Enablement
- Produce process artifacts that support:
Training and adoption;
Role clarity and responsibility changes;
Change impact analysis - Clearly articulate what is changing, why it is changing, and how work will be done differently post-go-live
- Support readiness activities without owning change execution
- Governance & Documentation
- Create clear, usable process documentation (flows, narratives, RACI, controls)
- Ensure process decisions are traceable and defensible
- Support UAT readiness by validating that configured systems align with defined processes
- Design and document future-state processes across:
Must-Have
- 7+ years of experience in process engineering, business process design, or enterprise transformation
- Proven experience designing HR, payroll-adjacent, and finance control processes
- Experience working alongside HRIS and ERP implementations
- Strong understanding of:
- Payroll flows and labor costing
- Internal controls and approvals
- Cross-functional handoffs between HR and Finance
- Ability to work independently and exercise strong judgment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with UKG (Ready or Pro) and/or Net Suite environments
- Experience supporting audit, compliance, or regulated workflows
- Experience in time-compressed transformation initiatives
- Strong written and visual documentation skills
- Target-state people and payroll-adjacent processes are clearly defined and documented
- Systems are configured to support processes—not the other way around
- Control gaps and legacy limitations are removed
- Change Management has actionable, accurate process materials
- HR and Finance leaders have clarity and confidence in how work will operate post-go-live
