About the Position

The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the overall reliability, security, and lifecycle management of the Foundation’s technology platforms. In this role, you will design, implement, and optimize the core infrastructure, including server environments, virtualization, storage, backup, and foundational network services.

You’ll play a key part in reducing operational risk by championing standardization, automation, and disciplined change management. Beyond day‑to‑day operations, you will serve as the primary lead for Tier III escalation support and incident response, providing the technical leadership necessary to resolve complex platform and infrastructure issues effectively.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll oversee our server estate, including physical and virtual systems, to ensure they meet availability and performance needs.

You’ll handle storage and backup solutions, including regular restore testing to ensure our data is always recoverable.

You’ll collaborate with the security team to implement access controls and intrusion detection for our network.

You’ll partner with security groups to operate the controls that keep our systems safe from unauthorized access.

You’ll lead incident management for repeat issues, finding the root cause and planning how to fix it for good.

You’ll evaluate new technologies that fit our needs and offer technical mentorship to other IT staff members.

You’ll provide Tier III escalation support and help out with Tier II needs when the team needs extra capacity.

You should have
  • Infrastructure Expertise: You have at least 7 years of experience managing Windows servers and virtualization. You’re comfortable overseeing the full lifecycle of compute, storage, and disaster recovery to keep systems reliable.
  • Automation and Networking: You’re proficient in writing production‑grade Power Shell scripts with proper error handling. You also have a strong understanding of networking basics like DNS, DHCP, and VPNs.
  • Security and Compliance: You take a proactive approach to system safety. This includes experience with system hardening, patch compliance, and vulnerability remediation to keep data secure.
  • Technical Documentation: You’re skilled at solving complex technical problems and creating clear runbooks. You enjoy building documentation and diagrams that help the rest of the team follow standard processes.
  • Leadership and Communication: You’re a technical leader (as an individual contributor) who can manage projects and prioritize work effectively. You’re also great at translating technical issues and project updates to non‑technical teammates.
  • We want to emphasize that there is no such thing as the perfect candidate; candidates who do not have all of the required experience are encouraged to apply.
