Position Title:
Data Architect – Snowflake Optimization
Location: Portland, OR ( Remote)
Duration: 6 Months with possibility of extension
Role SummaryThe Data Architect – Snowflake Optimization will lead the assessment, architecture modernization, and optimization of the client’s Snowflake data platform. This role will serve as the technical lead for Snowflake optimization initiatives, working closely with architects, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to improve platform performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Lead Snowflake performance tuning and cost optimization initiatives.
- Review and optimize warehouses, query performance, clustering, caching, and workload management.
- Assess and redesign Snowflake schemas, pipelines, and ELT architectures for scalability and efficiency.
- Optimize Matillion ELT jobs using Snowflake best practices and pushdown transformations.
- Define governance, monitoring, and cost control frameworks for Snowflake usage.
- Recommend modern data architecture solutions including dynamic tables, external tables, Iceberg, Spark, or EMR where applicable.
- Lead technical workshops, architecture reviews, and provide implementation guidance to client teams.
- Strong expertise in Snowflake architecture, performance tuning, and cost optimization.
- Hands on experience with Snowflake features including warehouses, clustering, caching, tasks, and dynamic tables.
- Experience with Matillion ELT on Snowflake.
- Strong SQL performance tuning and data modeling skills.
- Good knowledge of AWS services including S3 and cloud cost optimization.
- Strong stakeholder management and client facing communication skills.
- Experience with Iceberg, Spark, or EMR.
- Exposure to Snowflake Cortex and advanced Snowflake capabilities.
- CI/CD and Dev Ops experience for data platforms.
- Knowledge of data governance and Fin Ops frameworks.
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering or cloud data platforms.
- 5+ years of focused Snowflake architecture and optimization experience.
- Prior experience in architect or consulting lead roles preferred.
