About Prophetic:Real estate development is a multi-billion-dollar industry that has run on fragmented data, manual processes, and gut instinct for decades. Prophetic is changing that. We're building the AI-native platform that enables homebuilders, developers, and investors to find, analyze, and act on land opportunities from a single system — powered by proprietary technologies that process billions of data points across all 50 states.
We are the market leader in our space, and our customers don't just use the product — they love it. We're not making teams more efficient. We're changing how they operate.
Prophetic is scaling fast — demand is outpacing our ability to hire, and we're just getting started. This is a once-in-a-lifetime team: sharp, low ego, deeply collaborative, and obsessed with building the best product in the industry. Come disrupt an industry with us.
About the Role:Prophetic's platform processes billions of data points across all 50 states — parcel ownership records, zoning data, development activity, and geospatial layers that power every product we ship. As we scale to serve the nation's largest homebuilders, the complexity and volume of our data infrastructure is growing exponentially.
We're looking for a Data Engineer to work alongside our senior engineering team on the data-intensive backbone of the platform. This is a hybrid role — roughly 70% database and data pipeline work, 30% application-level development. You'll spend most of your time in complex SQL, building and maintaining ETL pipelines, debugging data quality issues, and ensuring the accuracy of ownership records, development triggers, and parcel-level analytics.
You'll work directly with our senior engineers on products like Dev Map, where data pipeline accuracy directly impacts whether customers catch development opportunities. When something doesn't trigger correctly or ownership data is wrong, you'll be the one digging into the data to figure out why and fix it. This role requires someone comfortable navigating county assessor websites, understanding real estate data structures, and working with large-scale datasets (2+ billion rows).
If you're a data-first engineer who thrives on problem-solving across messy, real-world datasets and wants to have outsized impact at a fast-growing startup, this is the role.
What You'll Do:- Build, maintain, and optimize data pipelines that process parcel ownership, zoning, and development activity data across all 50 states.
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries against datasets with 2+ billion rows in Postgre
SQL and Databricks. - Debug and resolve data quality issues — ownership discrepancies, missing triggers, pipeline failures — across production systems.
- Navigate county assessor websites, state GIS portals, and public records to validate and source ownership and parcel data.
- Support Dev Map and other platform products by ensuring data pipeline accuracy and reliability.
- Collaborate with senior engineers on backend logic, data validation, and application-level features as needed.
- Build monitoring and alerting systems for data freshness, pipeline health, and quality metrics.
- Work with Databricks for large-scale data processing, transformation, and analytics workloads.
- Document data schemas, pipeline architectures, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Use AI tooling daily to accelerate development, debugging, and data analysis workflows.
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering, database development, or a data-heavy software engineering role.
- Strong proficiency in SQL — complex joins, window functions, query optimization, and working with very large datasets.
- Experience with Postgre
SQL and familiarity with PostGIS or geospatial data concepts. - Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines in production environments.
- Comfort with Python for scripting, data processing, and pipeline automation.
- Problem-solving mindset — you enjoy digging into data discrepancies and figuring…
