Computing Technology Specialist – Cascade IT Team

Position located at PCC's Downtown Center building with additional duties at the Cascade campus.

Work schedule:

Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm. This full‑time role is in a complex network environment where the specialist maintains, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs computer hardware, operating systems, devices, and software as part of a collaborative technical support team.

Responsibilities
  • Installs, configures, maintains, and supports a diverse set of workstation operating systems, client/server, and local applications on computers, laptops, handheld devices, printers, and other peripherals; creates and implements automation for configuration and installation.
  • Analyzes and resolves hardware, software, and network issues, repairs user workstations, modifies configurations, replaces faulty components, and rebuilds complete systems on a variety of platforms using complex software tools for managing large groups of computers.
  • Documents and updates work progress and problem resolution in the technical support database; follows complex written instructions and may create technical documentation and procedures for team use.
  • Provides professional technical support to customers, maintaining goodwill, cooperation, and productive relationships.
  • Works closely with network and server administration teams to create and support district‑wide computer configurations and troubleshoot service interruptions.
  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots specialized departmental software.
  • Maintains up‑to‑date computer skills, attends training events as required, researches and discovers technical solutions.
  • Attends and participates in district‑wide, campus‑wide, and departmental meetings and committees to discuss computer‑related issues.
Success Criteria / Requirements

The following qualifications, skills, and abilities are critical for success:

  • Experience supporting PCs, Macs, and other devices and associated software applications.
  • Ability to work with students, staff, faculty, vendors, and others to assist with using technology devices and software, resolve technology issues, and participate in technology projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of management tools (KACE, Jamf, Trellix, Deep Freeze, Beyond Trust, Ghost Solution Suite, Active Directory, etc.) for supporting and automating processes for PCs and Macs.
  • Experience creating and updating technical documentation for IT teams and procedure guides for users.
  • Understanding of various IT teams and how they work together, local area network familiarity, information security knowledge, and advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience maintaining technology skills and keeping current on new techniques, procedures, and tools.
  • Experience with project management and working on project teams to implement new and updated systems.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or two years of college‑level coursework or training in a computer‑related discipline, or equivalent experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • Two years of work experience with computing systems.
  • Knowledge of current PC hardware, operating systems, client/server, and network technologies, including printers and peripheral devices such as scanners, PDAs, and special‑needs equipment; ability to install and configure a wide variety of software applications.
  • Certifications (preferred) include A+, Net+, Microsoft related.

Effectively and clearly communicate verbally and in writing; read, understand, and follow complex technical documentation; multi‑task and manage time efficiently; use critical thinking to analyze, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair computer problems in a complex networked environment; plan, organize, and document technical work; configure systems per institutional policies and procedures; prioritize work requests and work occasional long hours; collaborate in a team;

provide responsive service to departmental customers; and provide own transportation to various sites throughout the district.
