Director of IT
Scion Technology has been engaged to conduct a search for an experienced Director of IT for our client, a trusted leader in diagnostics and scientific insights.
This is a full-time position based in Portland, OR.
The Director of Information Technology oversees IT operations, support, regulatory compliance, and technology innovation to support laboratory excellence. This position leads the strategic planning, implementation, and management of information technology systems, including procedures and policies. Responsibilities include ensuring the reliability, security, and compliance of laboratory IT infrastructure, including LIMS, network systems, cybersecurity, and data management.

- Develop, implement, and execute the organization's IT strategy, governance framework, policies, and technology roadmap.
- Lead the day-to-day operation, maintenance, security, and performance of enterprise IT systems, including LIMS/LIS, network infrastructure, servers, cloud platforms, and business applications.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CLIA, 21 CFR Part 11, NIST, SOC 2, and other applicable regulatory and security standards.
- Direct cybersecurity initiatives, including risk assessments, vulnerability management, disaster recovery, business continuity planning, and incident response.
- Lead and develop the IT team through hiring, coaching, performance management, and professional development.
- Oversee software development initiatives, system integrations, automation projects, internal tools, and custom applications while providing technical guidance on architecture and code quality.
- Manage relationships with technology vendors, consultants, and development partners, including contract negotiations and procurement.
- Establish IT performance metrics, service levels, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain IT documentation, change management processes, validation records, and audit readiness.
- Support the development and maintenance of IT-related standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Communicate technology initiatives, risks, and improvements through executive presentations and departmental meetings.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive IT leadership or management experience.
- Experience leading enterprise IT infrastructure, cloud environments, cybersecurity programs, and data management platforms.
- Experience supporting software development, system integrations, or technical architecture initiatives.
- Experience managing IT teams, vendors, budgets, and strategic technology initiatives.
- Healthcare, clinical laboratory, or regulated industry experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS/LIS) highly preferred.
- Exposure to AI, machine learning, advanced analytics, or computational research environments is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, and enterprise systems.
- Working knowledge of software development principles, APIs, programming concepts, and system architecture.
- Understanding of data architecture and data pipelines supporting analytics and AI initiatives.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks including HIPAA, CLIA, 21 CFR Part 11, NIST, and SOC 2.
