As an L1 Data Center Technician, you will join a dynamic, on-site delivery team responsible for the physical installation, maintenance, and basic validation of our client's server and network infrastructure. You will play a vital role in ensuring hardware integrity, maintaining structured cabling standards, and supporting day-to-day inventory audits.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Transport, rack, and position servers, switches, and patch panels at designated installation locations. Perform physical inspections of all incoming hardware to ensure zero transit damage.
  • Conduct basic server validation, power checks, and initial boot verification (e.g., "smoke testing") to ensure hardware viability.
  • Install and route network and power cables in strict compliance with approved wiring diagrams and structured cabling standards.
  • Maintain impeccable cable management, including bundling, labeling, and routing compliance.
  • Collaborate with network administrators to verify physical layer connectivity (confirming link lights, ports, and correct mapping).
  • Safely install and replace basic hot-swappable and internal hardware components, including Network Interface Cards (NICs), system memory (RAM), and storage drives (HDDs/SSDs).
  • Assist with unpacking, unboxing, and preparing assets for deployment.
  • Perform precise inventory audits of physical servers, internal components, and consumables to maintain data integrity in the asset database.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • 1 to 2 years of hands‑on experience in a data center, IT lab, or similar enterprise infrastructure environment.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; an Associate’s degree or relevant IT certifications (CompTIA A+, Network+, or Server+) is a strong plus.
  • Basic understanding of server hardware components (CPU, RAM, NICs, storage interfaces) and rack topologies.
  • Familiarity with structured cabling standards, color codes, and fiber/copper cable types (CAT5e, CAT6, Single-mode/Multi-mode fiber).
  • Experience working within an IT ticketing system (such as Service Now or Jira) to track and update tasks.
  • High attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
Physical Demand & Work Environment
  • Must have the ability to safely lift, carry, and maneuver rack‑mounted equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods while working in a data center environment.
  • Must be comfortable working in a dynamic environment with loud ambient noise (from server cooling fans) and varying climate‑controlled temperatures.
