Overview
We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator to lead our transition from on‑premise servers to a modern cloud architecture. The role focuses on managing SQL platforms that enable Business Intelligence through Azure, Snowflake, Tableau Server, Power BI Server, and SSRS Server.
Pay Range: $62.73 – $77.16 per hour
Department: Department of County Assets (DCA)
Job Type: Regular Represented
Exemption Status: United States of America (Non-Exempt)

- Manage SQL servers and databases daily, ensuring proper capacity and configuration.
- Lead the migration to cloud platforms, shifting from older on‑premise setups to Azure and Snowflake.
- Design robust backup plans and recovery procedures.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and implement optimizations.
- Mentor other IT staff on database tools and problem resolution.
- Maintain software security through updates, patches, and ongoing learning of new technology trends.
- Collaborate with project teams to transfer BI data from on‑prem SQL servers to the Snowflake platform.
Minimum qualifications and transferable skills:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience.
- Five years of database administration experience (or 9 years of qualifying training/experience).
- Advanced knowledge of Azure Cloud services such as AzureSQLManaged
Instance, AzureSQLDatabase, Azure Data Lake , Azure Data Factory , Azure Dev Ops , Azure Boards. - Advanced knowledge of Business Intelligence data marts, data warehousing, and best practices.
- Experience building ETL processes with developers.
- Experience with database logging tools (Idera, Red Gate Monitor, Splunk).
- Knowledge of BI platforms:
Tableau, Tableau Server, PowerBI, PowerBIReport
Server, SSRS. - Expertise in installing, tuning, maintaining, securing, and administering on‑prem MSSQLServer and cloud environments.
- Experience administering SSIS environments.
- Knowledge of security, authorization, and authentication in Microsoft Active Directory and Azure
EntraID. - Experience in Azure and SQL backup and recovery design.
- Basic knowledge of networking and firewall concepts.
- Service-minded and integrity-driven.
- Effective communicator, translating technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Rapid learner, adapting quickly to evolving technology.
- Methodical problem solver focusing on root cause and long‑term solutions.
- Collaborative team player who builds relationships and works side‑by‑side with others.
The role is based in the IT Division within the Department of County Assets (DCA). The team reports to IT Manager Michelle Smith and currently focuses on modernizing cloud‑based tools.
