Part‑time Faculty – ASL / English Interpreting (Interest Pool)
Portland Community College seeks candidates for part‑time faculty assignments in ASL / English Interpreting. This is an interest pool; candidates will be considered for substitute and full‑term assignments during the academic year.
Applicants must be residents of Oregon or Washington or be able to establish residence in either state.
Responsibilities- Teach credit courses in American Sign Language and interpreting at the college level.
- Deliver lecture, lab, or combined lecture/lab format courses.
- Develop course materials and assessments in accordance with department standards.
- Serve on subject‑area committees and contribute to curriculum development.
- Engage students and support their professional development.
- Master’s Degree in Interpreting, Interpreter Education, Intercultural Relations, Deaf Education, Linguistics, or related field.
- Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (CSC, CI-CT or NIC) or from the ASLTA.
- Current membership in the Conference of Interpreter Trainers (CIT).
- At least three years of experience teaching interpreting or ASL in college credit courses.
- Native or near‑native ASL proficiency assessed by proficiency interview.
- Preferred:
Experience coordinating an academic program, including working with part‑time faculty and developing curriculum.
- Practicum courses (ITP 180, 279, 281, 283, 284, 285): AAS or BA in Sign Language Interpretation, Interpreter Education, or related field; RID certification; three years professional interpreting experience; background in mentoring new interpreters.
- Other courses (language, theory, interpreting): AAS or BA in Sign Language Interpretation, Interpreter Education, or related field; RID or ASLTA certification; three years professional interpreting experience; at least three years teaching for‑credit ASL classes or recent related experience.
- Embedded related instruction:
Three years professional work experience in the Deaf community for ITP 273‑275; interpreting mentoring and feedback for students in ITP 279, 281; and business/accounting experience for ITP 268.
- Eligibility for Oregon Sick Leave and retirement savings plans, contingent upon employment status.
- Hourly rate determined by course type (lecture, lab, lecture/lab) according to PCC salary schedule.

- Qualified veterans and disabled veterans receive employment preference.
- Submit DD-214 (and DD-214 with VA letter for disabled veterans) during the application process; documentation to PCC Benefits.
- All employment offers contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
