About the Position: As the Chief of Plant Maintenance, you will supervise the activities of employees who maintain, repair, and improve the floating plant, associated equipment, and facilities assigned to the Navigation Division in Portland District and utilize your knowledge of engineering, engineering practices, and personnel management.

• You will work under the general supervision of the Plant Branch Chief, who provides broad general direction regarding the objectives and results desired.
• You will be directly responsible for all technical, professional, and administrative functions of the U.S. Moorings facility and the maintenance of the various floating plant facilities within the Navigation Division.
• The work requires exercising expert professional and administrative knowledge and ability in accomplishing Facilities Management within the framework of general policies and operational directives from higher authorities.
• You will collaborate with other Section Chiefs within the Navigation Division to negotiate, decide on, and coordinate work-related changes affecting the maintenance of the nation’s waterways.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Specialized Experience is defined as:
Experience overseeing plant maintenance facilities associated with the maintenance and repair of large sea-going vessels. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in federal service (GS-12).
