Project Manager
The Project Manager is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, planning, implementation, execution, control, and completion of specific projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. The role ensures consistency with company strategy, commitments, and goals. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and contractors or consultants across multiple disciplines to deliver projects according to plan. The Project Manager will also participate in defining the projects' objectives and oversee their quality throughout the life cycle, providing support to Engineering, New Product Introduction (NPI), Facilities, and other projects as needed.
Responsibilities include:
- Meet the overall objectives of the projects and programs.
- Follow appropriate management systems to ensure all required program launch activities and quality planning activities occur during program development.
- Set up and interact with the project team, responsible for all disciplines, team success, and results of each team member.
- Create and execute project work plans and timelines, revising as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
- Monitor the team's ability to meet all project targets, including program costs, customer requirements, and risks.
- Draft and submit budget proposals, recommending subsequent budget changes as necessary.
- Work with the project team to develop, submit, and implement cost savings.
- Evaluate resource needs for projects in support of all new products and cost reduction initiatives, obtaining consensus on due dates with all functional champions.
- Manage day-to-day operational aspects of project(s) and scope.
- Develop proposals for risk mitigation and coordinate appropriate risk management activities.
- Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
- Review deliverables prepared by the team, identify opportunities for improvement, and make constructive suggestions for change.
- Escalate issues of work product or team member behaviors as appropriate and in a timely manner.
- Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to project success.
- Effectively apply practices and enforce project and product standards.
- Prepare for and present project and quality reviews, delivering engaging, informative, and well-organized presentations.
- Facilitate regular team meetings and present reports verbally, in writing, and in presentations to keep all stakeholders informed of project progress, problems, and solutions.
- Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
- Participate in the analysis of project profitability, revenue, and margins as required.
- Conduct project post-mortems and report on recommendations to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
- Accountable for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in assigned area and responsible for design and operating effectiveness of internal controls.
- Develop and monitor processes and practices necessary for legal and ethical compliance in the assigned area.
Essential Skills include:
- PMP certification.
- Thorough understanding of strategic planning, risk management, and change management.
- Proficiency in agile/hybrid project methodologies.
- 3-5+ years of successful engineering project management experience in a technical organization - NPI experience will stand out.
- Proven experience in managing a team to meet strict timelines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications include:
- Bachelor's Degree in Project Management, Engineering, or Business Administration.
- Experience in the automotive industry or similar.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams such as manufacturing, engineering, sourcing, and validation testing is preferred.
Work Environment:
This position is based onsite in southeast area of Portland, OR, with primarily onsite work requirements. No current relocation support for non-local candidates.
