Department Overview
The Liver Transplant Program Manager is responsible for clinical, fiscal, human resource and quality outcomes for the Liver Transplant Program. This includes actively managing all clinical operations including evaluation of a potential recipient or living donor, management of all patients on the waitlist, and the education and management of recipients and living donors post-transplant. Working closely with Medical & Surgical Directors and Clinical Transplant Services Director, the manager will develop standards of care to ensure high quality, cost effective delivery of care and spearhead innovative projects for program improvements.
The manager understands and ensures regulatory requirements are met for UNOS, CMS, and DNV.
Function/Duties of PositionThe manager will be responsible for hiring, onboarding and maintaining staff. The manager will be responsible for assessing workflows to optimize productivity and satisfaction. The manager works with staff on a clearly defined and communicated vision and engages individuals and groups to achieve that vision. The manager identifies and develops organizational talent and embraces continuous learning of self and others.
Additionally the manager will respond to all patient satisfaction concerns and evaluate means for programmatic improvement. This includes responsibility for the program development, management and overall day-to-day business operations associated with the clinical operations for the Liver Transplant Service.
The manager collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, in conjunction with the Clinical Transplant Services Director, PAS Supervisor, transplant quality specialist and physician partners, to advance quality strategies, ensure a positive professional work environment, facilitate timeliness of services, and enhance patient and staff satisfaction. The manager oversees all aspects of the provision of clinical services including the maintenance of safety and technical/clinical performance, human resources, quality, standards of care, practice guidelines, service delivery and patient and customer satisfaction.
This position is responsible for financial accountability and working collaboratively with the Director to monitor the operating budget.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Strategic & Program Planning — The Nurse Manager develops and executes short and long-term goals aligned with organizational, division, and nursing priorities. This includes establishing measurable objectives, monitoring performance outcomes, and adjusting plans based on data, results, and stakeholder feedback. The Nurse Manager engages staff in shared governance and continuous improvement initiatives to advance clinical practice and operational efficiency.
2. Operational Leadership — The Nurse Manager provides leadership for daily operations across assigned inpatient or ambulatory units, ensuring effective patient care delivery,patient flow, and workflow coordination. The role maintains visibility with staff, fosters open communication, promotes collaboration, and models accountability. The Nurse Manager also leads initiatives to enhance efficiency, integration, and overall patient experience.
3. Financial & Resource Management — The Nurse Manager develops, monitors, and manages operating budgets while tracking productivity, overtime, and resource utilization. The role implements cost-effective strategies while maintaining high standards of patient care and partners with leadership to plan for staffing, capital, andother resource needs to ensure the operational sustainability of the units or programs.
