HOURLY RATE: $30.29
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position handles department mechanical quality control during the maintenance and emergent repair of ships. Must have knowledge of mechanical and machining repairs. Must have proficiency in Microsoft excel, word, Adobe pdf and other related computer programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Complies with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures
* Takes direction and requires limited guidance to conduct assignment.
* Understands and has experience with assembly, and installing equipment, using hand tools/power tools.
* Understands shaft alignment using the dial indicator method or laser.
* Have the ability to work at heights.
* Have the ability to work in confined spaces.
* Communicates effectively, works independently or in a group.
* Ability to do basic math, i.e. add, subtract, divide and multiply.
* Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English
* Ability to do percentages, metric and decimal conversions, multiply fractions and decimals as required for use in measurements,
* Reads and understands blueprints and assembly drawings.
* Understanding of NAVSEA and USCG requirements preferred.
* Consistently survey of project(s) for department process compliance (Craft procedures). Reports deficiencies to the Production Manager.
* Monitors calibration of pressure gages, torque wrenches, and precision measuring equipment. Helps schedule calibrations, and keeps log of tools.
* Ability to complete department CFR's and other required reports as needed with MS Office (Outlook, Word and Excel) in a clear and timely manner.
* Assists Supervisors to ensure check points and required reports are not missed in project specifications.
* Organizes department spec/items, references and the check points required for each one per specification.
* Understand and demonstrate the use of all standard shop measuring tools:
* Micrometers inside, outside, and depth.
* Vernier scales and/or dial calipers.
* Rulers and tape measures.
* Protractors, Vernier, linear.
* Firm joint and spring joint calipers inside and outside.
* Height gauges.
* pi tapes.
Might have knowledge in working with one of the following items but not required:
* Working knowledge of shipboard machinery (i.e. valves and actuators, variety of pumps, gears and gear boxes, winches, heat exchangers, bearings and shafting, rudder systems, field machining) pertaining to machine shop repairs.
* Propulsion basics including variable pitch props.
* Pumps - types and mechanical seals.
* Steam systems.
* Underwater hull machinery, including bearings.
* Blowers, winches, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
* Shipboard systems including condensers, heat exchangers, fuel, lube oil, and cooling.
* Knowledge of overboard and suction ship valves. (Disassembly, clean, lap and blue)
* Knowledge of hydrostatic testing of valves and pumps.
EDUCATION AND/OR
EXPERIENCE:
* High school diploma, GED, or greater.
* 3 years of relevant work experience preferred.
* Proven skills:
Work history and/or applicable education will be considered in lieu of work experience.
* Experience with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe PDF.
