Position: Vehicle Control and Upfit I/O Component Development Engineer (SDV)

Inside the Role

The Vehicle Control & Upfit team is responsible for the development and integration of Body controller ECUs and Body Builder/ TEM Interface ECUs. These components interact with many features in the vehicle such as ignition, power management, safety interlocks, lighting, switches, drivetrain, and vocational topics. We work daily in a global team across multiple Daimler Truck business units, driving innovation by developing cutting‑edge software and hardware for next‑generation trucks.

This role supports the transition to a Software Define Vehicle (SDV) using a High‑Power Computer (HPC) architecture.

What You Drive at DTNA
  • Develop the next generation IO family for SDV and scalability for all truck and bus platforms.
  • Lead and coordinate with all regions in truck and bus platforms the development of IO cabin and IO cab.
  • Lead expansions for IO chassis.
  • Create technical specifications of the IOs for RfQs with regions.
  • Align pinning for all IOs across regions.
  • Identify best technical concepts to guarantee flexible PIN control independent from VMM updates.
  • Coordinate with multiple teams (powernet, architecture/communication network, FuSa, Cyber Security, SW stack, etc.) for technical spec development.
  • Meet with I/O suppliers to align technical concepts and review best product offerings.
  • Align project timelines, system design, validation, and issue resolution with the global team.
  • Support Demo Truck activities and adapt current ASAM for initial SDV demonstrations.
  • Mentor junior engineers, delegate technical tasks, and guide issue resolution.
  • Report to stakeholders.
Knowledge You Should Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or software engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • 5 years of experience in automotive ECU hardware and software development.
  • Previous experience in a global development organization with teams and colleagues worldwide.
  • 5 years of experience identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems; 2 years leading and mentoring others.
  • Working knowledge of CAN data bus and embedded controllers.
  • 5 years of experience using Vector tools (CANalyzer, CANoe, and related debugging tools) for troubleshooting, bus analysis, and ECU testing.
  • 3 years of experience in model‑based SW development tools and methods, and with AUTOSAR ECUs.
  • 5 years of experience developing and analyzing electrical circuits for automotive applications, including schematic review, component selection, and failure mode analysis.
  • 3 years of experience with body control features and systems in trucks or commercial vehicles.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with suppliers, customers, and market councils.
  • Knowledge of input/output circuits and signal conditioning for automotive sensors and actuators.
  • Ability to document technical concepts clearly for diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to balance trade‑offs between performance, cost, and safety.
  • Exceptional candidates may have over 3 years of experience as an ECU component owner.
  • Experience in functional safety ISO
    26262 and cybersecurity development is a plus.

Compensation

Starting salary range: $117,000–$150,000

USD, dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

Schedule and Location

Hybrid (4 days per week in‑office / 1 day remote).

Location:

Portland, OR, USA. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
