Position Summary

The Vigor Machine team is a provider of emergent ship repair as well as outfitting and assembly of new project builds such as wheel gates for the hydro industry, or stacker cranes for commercial airline paint hanger facilities. We regularly work on repair projects involving steam turbines, reciprocating engines, pumps, valves, in‑place machining using portable mills and line boring equipment and much more.

And we do it with a “Can do, get it done right” attitude.

Essential Functions And Major Responsibilities
  • Take steps to ensure every job is done in a manner that’s safe and completed according to the latest workplace safety regulations, laws and requirements.
  • Work as a team to disassemble, diagnose, repair or replace, reassemble and test small to large assemblies for new builds and the ship repair industry.
  • Clean up at the end of shift to make sure your job site remains well‑organized, free of unnecessary clutter.
  • Fit bearings, shafts, attach motors, and connect and align couplings and belts to precise tolerances.
  • Assemble and test mechanical components.
  • Will read blueprints, diagrams, bill of materials, schematics and other technical documents to dismantle and assemble equipment.
  • Help develop plans and sequencing for assemblies.
  • Knowledge of rigging and overhead crane operation, lifting device use and inspection and load calculations.
  • Perform daily Job Hazard Analysis on work to be done.
  • Use a variety of hand tools and measuring tools. You will lift heavy objects, physically manipulate objects with tools as needed utilizing cranes and other equipment to complete large‑scale projects in your daily job duties.
  • Electromechanical assembly work.

  • Understand machined fits and be able to use measuring equipment to verify sizes of parts prior to assembly.
  • Understanding bearings installation and adjustment along with some hydraulic and electrical experience is a plus.
  • Able to communicate clearly written and oral.
  • Willing to work in all environments as needed.
  • Troubleshooting skills are required.
  • Ability to follow a problem to the source and solve the issue.
  • Mechanical aptitude is essential.
  • Ability to run manual machine tools is a plus. Need to be able to do this safely using the correct equipment to avoid injury to self and others.
Education And/Or Experience

5 years of experience preferred. Will train the right candidate.

Physical Demands
  • The physical demands for this position require continual standing, walking and using fine motor skills for the operation of tools and machinery.
  • Ability to lift, carry 60 lbs. May require some lifting or assistance with heavy equipment. Occasionally requires twisting, turning, bending, climbing, and walking over uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, kneel, twist, pull, push, grip, and climb.
Work Environment
  • The work is performed inside a shop and outside in the elements.
  • The work is performed around industrial equipment generating varying degrees of noise.
  • Work may involve use of chemicals, coolants, greases, solvents, petroleum, vapors and fumes.
  • Proper PPE will be provided as necessary.
