SUMMARY
To accurately and consistently fabricate and weld titanium electrodes into titanium ingots for casting into parts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS1. Cutting
Objective:
Identify, measure, align and cut released alloy for electrode fabrication.
- Identify released metal by M L number, using the MLC database
- Calculate the length of alloy to efficiently utilize inventory, considering stub length and furnace capabilities
- Align alloy bar in bandsaw to ensure a smooth, straight cut
- Monitor bandsaw during cutting to keep blade on track and cut straight
- Recycle stubs
- Cut off melted alloy from end of stub
- Ensure stub is cut straight
- Identify M L, length and alloy type on the stub per identification template
Objective:
Adequately weld alloy bar to stub, creating a titanium electrode.
- Ensure welder is in proper operating condition
- Verify sufficient weld wire, correct type, and functioning feeder
- Remove alpha case inclusions and debris from welding surface on bar and stub, using wire brushes, grinders, air hammers, and acetone if needed
- Ensure alloy is released by M L number, using the MLC database
- Fill out a manual weld map and enter into MLC database to create a barcoded electrode tag
- Use TIG welder to attach alloy bar to stub
- Clean all weld lines with a wire brush
- Mark all weld lines with alloy M L number for identification
- Verify total electrode weight and attach barcode tag
Objective:
Maintain records of welds, bandsaw cuts, electrode maps, and metal inventory.
- Maintain records of all welds
- Maintain records of usable metal
- Ensure all metal is identified by metal lot number
- Validate metal inventory as requested
- Positively identify fabricated electrodes
- Maintain records of bandsaw cuts per blade
- Update MLC database for inventory accuracy and electrode tracking
Objective:
Maintain a safe working environment with an emphasis on safety consciousness in all aspects of the job.
- Adhere to plant and department safety rules
- Safely operate all equipment and tools
- Identify and report safety problems
- Perform monthly STOP audits
