Job Summary And ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Complex Gifts Officer provides expert counsel regarding non-cash gifts to potential and current donors, performs effective community outreach, and maintains collaborative working relationships with donors, OCF team members, and professional advisors. The role ensures development of and compliance with gift acceptance policies and procedures for non-cash gifts.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Statewide Fund Work and Complex Gifts (40% of time)
- Stay apprised of federal and state tax legislation related to gift planning for conversations with donors and professional advisors.
- Lead training of development and other staff in gift planning matters.
- Participate in defining OCF’s gift acceptance policies and procedures for non-cash gifts.
- Provide recommendations and develop written/electronic communications about planned giving and acceptance of non-cash gifts.
- Develop an internal library of material about charitable giving vehicles and trends, tax matters, and OCF materials.
- Collaborate across divisions to create and promote new philanthropic service opportunities for donors.
- Engage in special projects aligned with OCF’s strategic plan.
- Field inquiries and work with OCF staff to bring proposed gifts, policy exceptions, and other matters to the Gift Acceptance Committee.
- Assist OCF development staff with non-standard donor inquiries and requests.
- Approve all fund agreements and post-advisory restrictions.
- Oversee fund agreement template changes as needed, including consultation with legal counsel.
- Donor Work (40% of time)
- Meet with donors and prospective donors to educate them about charitable options and create donor-centered gift plans aligned with OCF policies.
- Engage with local nonprofits to explain benefits of partnering with OCF to establish endowment funds.
- Speak to groups and individuals about planned giving and non-cash asset donations; provide outreach in the community.
- Professional Advisor Outreach (20% of time)
- Plan quarterly philanthropy forums for professional advisor audiences to promote philanthropy and increase referrals.
- Plan events for the professional advisor network to connect with and educate advisors in a relaxed setting.
- Provide content and input for professional advisor communications.
Required Education, Training, Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience with gift planning strategies for major donors (bequests, charitable trusts, gift annuities, etc.) or experience as a planned giving officer, licensed attorney (estate planning or tax preferred).
- Certified Financial Planner, Certified Public Accountant, or Bank Trust Officer in trust administration (or equivalent).
- Advanced knowledge of gifts of real estate, life insurance, bargain sales, closely held securities, LLCs, retirement plans, and other non-cash assets.
- Current knowledge of regulations and policies governing gift planning.
- Strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple initiatives and priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, integrated databases, and project management software.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally.
Statewide travel is required for this position as needed.
Compensation And Benefits- Hiring Range: $160,000 - $170,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
