Positioned less than an hour from the Portland Metro and less than an hour from the Oregon Coast, Columbia County boasts rural and frontier populations and the most waterfront of all Oregon counties. Tourism continues to grow with visitors enticed by outdoor recreation, farmers markets, small town festivals and Halloween Town. Columbia County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is housed within Columbia County Public Health in St Helens, Oregon.
The lack of a hospital within the county makes the Columbia County Medical Reserve Corps instrumental in providing care to these more isolated communities, increasing access to medical support aids in the creation of an equitable, safe, and healthy environment. Columbia County MRC is connected via Citizen Corps to an active volunteer base within the county while also being connected to the nationwide network of locally based volunteer units that train and prepare community members to help with disaster response when emergency personnel need additional resources.
MRC members can also volunteer in the community in non-disaster times, building a more resilient community. The OHA Ameri Corps VISTA Partnership Project is committed to building a prepared and capable public health workforce to strengthen Oregon communities. We value applicants who can bring lived experience. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Columbia County is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.
