Job Summary

In partnership with local communities, the Moreau Center for Service and Justice ( MCSJ ) Program Manager of Community Engagement develops and facilitates opportunities to support student engagement in issues of critical human and environmental concerns through active learning, mutually-beneficial service opportunities, and experience-based opportunities rooted in Catholic social teaching.

This position will support the advancement of MCSJ local service opportunities and community engagement for students, ensuring engagement is implemented through a place-based community engagement lens that effectively meets student interests, community partner goals, and strategic campus initiatives. The Program Manager for Community Engagement will manage assigned programs, coordinate campus wide opportunities for service, participate in local immersions, and serve as an advisor for students in MCSJ leadership positions.

This position reports to the Director of the Moreau Center for Service and Justice.

Core Duties

  • Develop and manage the Campus Volunteer Coordinator ( CVC ) program which includes supervision of 3 to 6 student leaders, providing ongoing engagement at specific partner organizations, and collaborating with partners to identify shared goals. Collaborate with department leadership to expand and strengthen the CVC program , providing a primary focus on New Columbia and North Portland community partners.
  • Manage the Community Service Work Study ( CSWS ) Program by developing and onboarding Community Partners while overseeing the recruitment and orientation of 15 to 25 student employees. Provide supervisory duties of CSWS Student Employees by managing the hiring processes and timesheet approvals, and ensuring work responsibilities and training requirements meet program compliance, working closely with the Student Employment Office on hiring practices and budget management of Federal Work Study funds.
  • Manage site partnerships in support of MCSJ community engagement and volunteer programs, which include non-profit organizations, local area schools and other organizations that host student volunteers and CSWS students in community engagement opportunities. Duties include but are not limited to nurturing existing partners, serving as primary point of contact for partners hosting student opportunities, and supporting student participants in designated programs.
  • Supervise student employees and any other student leaders assigned to programs supporting community engagement and MCSJ. Supervisory responsibilities for all student positions includes hiring processes, setting of expectations, training and professional development, performance management and evaluations, and disciplinary processes including termination of employment.
  • Serve as the MSJC administrator for Give Pulse and Engage, providing management of on-boarding and training of campus and community partners as needed.
  • Support in the development, planning, and implementation oversight of low barrier monthly volunteer opportunities for the campus community, separate from Service & Justice volunteer events. Collaborate with the Program Manager for Social Justice Education to ensure student planned volunteer opportunities are relevant to student interests and meet strategic MSCJ and campus initiatives.
  • Provide support at campus-wide community engagement and service events hosted in collaboration with or by other departments and divisions, including but not limited to MLK Day ON, Homecoming/Family Weekend, Summer WAVE , Weekend on the Bluff, National Day of Racial Healing and International Women’s Day.
  • Collaborate with MCSJ team in support of Immersion Programs, including participation in local immersions.
  • Support the ongoing maintenance of MCSJ webpages, social media, and other digital platforms to ensure accurate and up to date information on programs and opportunities.
  • Assist in all MCSJ marketing and outreach events, including but not limited to creation and distribution of marketing materials, monthly tabling, and attendance at campus wide events to increase student connections and visibility of MCSJ.
  • Contribute to MCSJ department fundraising efforts.
  • Develop relevant and current programming which creatively integrates Catholic Social Teaching ( CST ), anti-oppression framework, anti-racist, and other justice-oriented tools into MCSJ programs.
  • Provide support in data collection, assessment, report compilation, financial reporting, and team planning to ensure department strategic goals and engagement measurements for students and partners are met.
  • Support Director and other MCSJ staff with new projects or initiatives as needed.
  • Participate on campus committees as assigned.
