Community Outreach & Events Coordinator
Congregation Shir Tikvah seeks a Community Outreach & Events Coordinator to serve as the congregation's principal public-facing professional. The Coordinator is responsible for the conception and execution of congregational events, for member and newcomer engagement, for communications, and for the stewardship of donors and community partners.
This is a generalist position within a small professional staff. The Coordinator is one of four staff members, reports to the Executive Director, and works in close partnership with the Rabbi, the Education Director, committee chairs and volunteers. The successful candidate combines dependable execution with genuine initiative, and exercises considerable latitude in shaping how this work is carried out — including in proposing and developing programming of their own devising.
Qualifications:
- Three or more years of experience in event coordination, community organizing, member or donor relations, or comparable nonprofit work.
- Demonstrated creative initiative — the capacity to conceive of and develop programming, not solely to administer an existing calendar.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to organize and motivate volunteers who give their time freely.
- Facility working alongside a lay committee — contributing ideas and carrying joint decisions through to completion.
- Comfort in representing an organization publicly, with warmth and credibility.
- Strong writing — clear, warm, and dependable — together with facility in email platforms, social media, and basic design tools.
- Proficiency with a donor or membership database, or a demonstrated aptitude for acquiring it.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to prioritize when several deadlines fall in the same week.
- Capacity for self-direction. This is a small organization without extensive supporting infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Jewish communal life and the rhythm of the Jewish calendar or a genuine willingness to learn it is essential.
- Alignment with the mission, values, and inclusive spirit of the congregation, and the steadiness to represent a community holding a range of views rather than a personal position.
- Availability for regular evening and weekend work, concentrated around the High Holy Days, festivals, Shabbat and other holiday events.
Salary: $55,000-$60,000 per year, depending on experience. Eligible for an annual bonus of up to 10% of base salary, awarded by the Board of Directors when annual goals including fundraising targets are met or exceeded. Benefits:
Health insurance or stipend, retirement match, paid time off, and professional development, in addition to Oregon sick time and Paid Leave Oregon.
