Department Overview

14C Medicine is a 31 bed acute care medicine unit. The unit provides service to patient populations ages 18-100+ with a variety of medical, acute care diagnoses and some cardiac conditions. Patients require acute medical and nursing interventions such as intravenous fluids, tube feedings, pain management, respiratory care (including tracheostomy and stable ventilators), antibiotics administration, diabetes management, heart failure care, and other related therapies.

Unit Vision:
We will provide exceptional care as a collaborative team that honors, respects and values our patients as well as each other.

14C accepts psychiatric patients with medical issues that cannot be managed on the inpatient psychiatric unit (1NW). This requires frequent monitoring, documentation, assessment, and knowledgeable medication management. A Psychiatric Professional Practice Leader is available to consult on this population. 14C emphasizes teamwork and collaboration with patients, families and the care team, with procedures in place to ensure a high-quality, consistent experience for all patients regardless of staff on duty.

14C is part of the medicine teaching service and welcomes contributions from students and professionals who support the care of patients, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists and others. The unit supports research and performance improvement aligned with patient care.
