Fast-paced, patient and family-centered, pediatric
PeriAnesthesiacareis provided in this department. Pediatric patient populations range from neonates to young adults and include ambulatory, inpatient, urgent/emergent surgeries, afterhour’ssedation and prolonged procedural recoveries. Positive collegial relationships with all interdisciplinary team members.
Cross trained to Pediatric Sedation Unit. Pediatric Sedation Service provides pediatric patient and family-centered care for children who require sedation for procedures and tests. Staff work under the direction of Pediatric Anesthesiologists. In our fast-paced setting, we foster professionalroleand relationship competence. We strive for excellence in interdepartmental partnerships. Flexibility, rapidassessmentsand interventions for quick case turnovers are key. Positive family engagement with skills in developmentally appropriate distraction techniques, and comfort positioning are emphasized.
Function/Dutiesof Position
The RN provides care consistent with ASPAN standards and evidence-based practice. The RN is responsible for participating in the growth of the nursing profession and continuous improvement to achieve best practice in our unit to increase the value of care we provide to our patients and families.
We provide fast-paced, patient and family-centered, pediatric Peri Anesthesia care. Pediatric patient populations range from neonates to young adults and include ambulatory, inpatient, urgent/emergent surgeries, after hour’s sedation and prolonged procedural recoveries. Positive collegial relationships with all interdisciplinary team members.
The Peri Anesthesia unit is staffed Monday to Friday from 0600 to 2230. Shift start times and lengths are variable. RN staff are required to take call for surgeries after hours, holidays and weekends based on the unit rotation. RNs provide pre- and post-anesthesia care.
Required Qualifications- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Pediatric Peri Anesthesia (pre-op, Phase I & II recovery)
- Current RN experience in a tertiary hospital setting
- BSN Graduates:
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date. - Bachelor’s degree in nursing required for external hires.
- BSN preferred for internal candidates.
- Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
- Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
