Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) – Permanent Position
Providence Portland Medical Center 4805 NE Glisan St, Portland, OR 97213
Position Overview
Providence Women’s and Children’s Services is seeking a full‑time Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (or Physician Assistant who has completed a 12‑month Neonatal PA fellowship/residency) to join a highly respected and well‑established neonatal team serving both Providence Portland Medical Center (PPMC) and Providence St. Vincent Medical Center (PSVMC). This is an exceptional opportunity to practice in two Level III NICUs within teaching hospitals that offer Maternal Fetal Medicine consultation, OB Hospitalist support, and a collaborative, team‑based care model.
In this role, you will provide advanced clinical management for high‑risk neonates and infants, attend deliveries, perform neonatal procedures, and partner closely with neonatologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and support staff to deliver high‑value, family‑centered care. Providers exercise autonomy in ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic tests and play a key role in shaping individualized treatment plans.
Schedule & Coverage
- Permanent, full‑time position
- 12‑ or 24‑hour in‑hospital shifts
- 7 AM–7 PM or 7 AM–7 AM
- PPMC typically uses 24‑hour shifts (lower acuity)
- PSVMC offers both 12‑ and 24‑hour shifts (higher acuity, smaller and sicker infants)
- No home call required
- Shared coverage with a team of 13 NNPs within Providence Medical Group
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive care for high‑risk neonates in Level III NICUs
- Attend high‑volume deliveries and manage neonatal stabilization
- Perform neonatal procedures, including intubation, line placement, and resuscitation
- Develop and implement evidence‑based treatment plans
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests
- Collaborate with neonatologists (contracted partners), nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams
- Support family education and promote family‑centered care
- Utilize dedicated provider work spaces at both PPMC and PSVMC
Patient Volumes
- PPMC: ~10 patients per day
- PSVMC: ~22 patients per day
- Delivery volume:
- Providence Portland: ~4,500 deliveries annually
- Providence St. Vincent: ~3,000 deliveries annually
High delivery volume makes prior delivery‑room experience strongly preferred.
Compensation
- $130,000-$135,000 Per Year with a full benefits package
Qualifications
- Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP‑BC) OR Physician Assistant who has completed a 12‑month Neonatal PA fellowship/residency
- Minimum of 1–2 years of independent neonatal experience strongly preferred
- Experience attending deliveries and performing neonatal procedures
- Active Oregon license (or ability to obtain)
- NRP certification required
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a teaching‑hospital environment
About Providence Women’s & Children’s Services
Providence is a regional leader in neonatal and perinatal care, offering integrated services across multiple campuses. Both PPMC and PSVMC are teaching hospitals with robust support systems, collaborative physician partnerships, and a strong commitment to high‑quality, compassionate neonatal care.
