Overview
Med Tech - Must be available on Weekends (Healthcare)
Reports to:
Director of Health and Wellness
Full Wage Range: $20.00 to $23.50
Responsibilities- Follow the policies and procedures of the facility governing the administering of medications to residents.
- Note and report errors in the administration of medications.
- Assist in developing and implementing procedures or programs to determine what medication errors occur, where, when, and why, and how they can be prevented.
- Perform administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, charts, and reports, and submit these as required.
- Maintain a friendly, productive working relationship with members of the nursing department, attending physicians, the Medical Director, and pharmacists.
- Report complaints or grievances by residents to the Director of Nursing Services.
- Participate in facility surveys (inspections) and Quality Assurance programs, the Pharmaceutical Services Committee, and other relevant committees or programs that affect medication pass and accuracy.
- Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document oral and/or topical medications for residents as ordered by the attending physician or Medical Director.
- Verify medications brought by newly admitted residents are examined and identified by the attending physician or facility pharmacy/pharmacist.
- Follow policies for destroying medications and document per requirements under the direction of the facility pharmacist or Director of Nursing Services.
- Follow labeling policies and ensure all medications are properly labeled and charted.
- Assist in documenting and removing medications that are discontinued by the attending physician.
- Follow procedures regarding drug receipt errors, including notifying the delivery source and the Director of Nursing Services, with a written error report signed by an observer/witness and you.
- Follow procedures for holding medications when residents are transferred or when medications are discontinued.
- Observe and verify that medication is ingested or applied as directed; document refusals with reasons.
- Promptly notify the Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, or Director of Nursing Services of any medication errors or adverse reactions.
- Verify resident identity before administering medication.
- Accurately measure, record, and report residents’ vital signs.
- Follow procedures that allow residents to self-administer medications when appropriate.
- Be familiar with common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms used for medication administration by the facility, pharmacists, and physicians.
- Attend and participate in continuing education to stay current in the profession and maintain certification.
- Agree not to disclose residents’ protected health information and report suspected violations to the Administrator.
- Report unauthorized attempts to access the facility’s information system.
- Perform all tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures and per supervisor instructions; cooperate with inter-departmental and other facility personnel to meet residents’ needs.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident care information, including protected health information; report known or suspected disclosures.
- Education and/or
Experience:
Must possess, as a minimum, a high school education or its equivalent. - Language
Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers and employees. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. - Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables with limited standardization. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must be a licensed Medication Aide having completed a state-approved training program and any necessary examination(s) in accordance with state laws.
