Job Overview
Community Health Nurse (CHN) – Correctional Nursing. Provide professional, compassionate health care to detained adults and juveniles at three Multnomah County Correctional facilities. Duties include triage, care planning, treatment of medical and mental‑health issues, and transition planning until release or transfer.
Benefits- Hourly pay $48.71 – $62.61 plus a 12% health‑nurse premium.
- Shift differential: swing $3/hr, graveyard $6/hr, weekends $3.50/hr.
- Mandatory overtime paid at 1.5× for the first 4 hours of a mandated shift and at 2.0× for the remainder; next‑day shifts after a mandated shift paid at 1.5×.

- Eligibility for Federal Student Aid Public Service Loan Forgiveness after 10 years of continuous service.
- COVID‑19 vaccination required; exemptions accepted with documentation.
- Conduct initial intake triage and ongoing care planning.
- Assess, monitor, and manage medical and mental‑health conditions.
- Provide wound care, medication administration, and treatment for drug and alcohol withdrawal.
- Delegate tasks to certified medication aides and coordinate care with interdisciplinary team members.
- Educate detainees on health topics and facilitate community release planning.
- Valid Oregon RN license issued by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
- Associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
- Successful background check through Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary setting.
- Experience providing services to diverse and vulnerable communities.
- Experience in a correctional facility.
- Experience working with underserved populations.
- Transferable skills gained through education, military service, or life experience relevant to this role.
