Job Summary

The Neuro‑Oncology Clinical APP Associate (APP) provides outpatient care and occasional inpatient consults for Neuro‑Oncology patients. The APP collaborates closely with faculty physicians, other APPs, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care, perform procedural work, coordinate care, and contribute to education and quality improvement initiatives.

Function/Duties of Position Clinical Care
  • Provide comprehensive patient assessments and develop evidence‑based treatment plans.
  • Administer and monitor chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and other neuro‑oncology treatments.
  • Collaborate with the care team, respond promptly to patient and family inquiries, and manage urgent clinical situations autonomously.
Care Coordination & Communication
  • Coordinate with inpatient and outpatient teams to ensure streamlined, patient‑centered care.
  • Triage patient calls and messages, determining appropriate care plans for new and returning patients.
  • Educate staff and clinic teams on care plans and best practices.
Patient and Family Education
  • Develop and present educational materials tailored to patients’ conditions.
  • Promote patient understanding and self‑management using available resources.
Program Development, Teaching & Quality Improvement
  • Engage in continuous process improvement and quality initiatives.
  • Participate in program development and staff development activities.
  • Teach neuro‑oncology principles and procedures to students, nurses, and support staff.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Neuro‑Oncology Specific Clinical Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent clinic days focused on symptom management (e.g., seizures, steroids, fatigue) and mid‑radiation/chemotherapy check‑ins.
  • Provide comprehensive chemotherapy education and monitor treatment progress, including laboratory result follow‑up.
  • Handle patient‑requested paperwork and schedule billable appointments when necessary.
  • Participate in and coordinate Tumor Board activities.
Scholarship and Clinical Supervision
  • Apply clinical knowledge to identify and recommend improvements in quality, patient experience, and cost.
  • Deliver instruction to fellows, residents, graduate APP students, and other learners, reviewing practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to specialty protocols, best practices, and organizational indicators.
Required Qualifications
  • Current Oregon licensure (Oregon Medical Board for PA, Oregon State Board of Nursing for NP).
  • Current active DEA registration and prescriptive authority.
  • Current NCCPA certification (for PA) or valid state certification (for NP).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive history and physical examinations.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and multi‑tasking skills.
  • Experience functioning effectively in a multidisciplinary, complex healthcare environment.
  • Clinical experience as an APP.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Neuro‑Oncology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Medical Oncology, or Palliative Care specialty experience.
  • At least 3 years of patient‑centered clinical experience.
  • Experience with Epic EMR and Microsoft Office Suite.
