Work Shift:
Monday - Friday 9:30am-6:00pm
The Target Pay for this position is $21.00 an hour. Pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training, and budget.
Purpose of JobThe Laboratory Generalist 1 receives and prepares samples for laboratory analysis and tests, sets up instruments, runs tests and reads, interprets, and releases results.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Receives and prepares samples for laboratory analysis or sends out tests
- Performs startup and required maintenance on analyzers
- Performs all required quality control per Quality Assurance guidelines
- Trains in all areas according to all Standard Operating Practices
- Enters and releases results
- Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation
- Participates in all departmental training programs
- Reconciles pending list
- Performs other duties as assigned
High school diploma or equivalent, 2- or 4-year degree in a science-related field preferred. Prior lab experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Laboratory skills and experience
- General science background
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to communicate information so others will understand; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
- Personal computer skills, strong typing ability, and knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Stationary position—must remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours
- Constantly operates a computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently
- Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch
- May be required to lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs
- Heavy microscopic work; ability to observe details at close range
- Proficiency in the English language for team meetings and data entry
- Extended hours may be needed
- Laboratory environments with potential biohazards mitigated by mandatory PPE
- Work under close to moderate supervision
- Potential exposure to zoonotic agents and hazardous chemicals as defined by National Hazard Communication Standards
