Swan Island Sheet Metal Works is seeking an experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) / Quality Control Inspector to support our growing fabrication operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that all fabricated products meet customer specifications, AISC and industry standards, and company quality expectations.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural steel and sheet metal fabrication, welding inspection, quality assurance processes, and AISC documentation management. This individual will work closely with estimators, shop foremen, welders, and customers to maintain the highest level of workmanship and compliance.
Position SummaryThe CWI / Quality Control Inspector is responsible for inspecting fabrication and welding activities, verifying compliance with applicable codes and project requirements, maintaining quality records, and supporting continuous improvement efforts throughout the shop.
Quality Control & Inspection- Perform visual welding inspections in accordance with AWS codes and AISC specifications.
- Verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, WPSs, and quality requirements.
- Conduct dimensional inspections of fabricated components and assemblies.
- Monitor fabrication processes to ensure quality standards are maintained throughout production.
- Coordinate and oversee third-party nondestructive testing (NDT) when required.
- Review incoming materials and verify material certifications and traceability.
- Perform final inspections prior to shipment.
- Responsible for collaborating with customers to resolve quality issues.
- Internal welder qualifications to applicable codes and specifications.
- Maintain inspection reports, weld logs, quality records, and project documentation.
- Review customer specifications and identify quality requirements before fabrication begins.
- Verify welding procedure specifications (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder qualifications.
- Assist in preparation of turnover packages and quality documentation for customers.
- Support compliance with applicable AWS, AISC, ASME, and customer-specific requirements.
- Record and generate reports for nonconformance and lead corrective action process as required.
