Job Description & How to Apply Below
Mission
To create computer programs and applications to verify specified dimensional measurements on development and production parts in order to assure compliance with customer specifications, PCC, and industrial standards, using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and conventional measuring devices. Responsibilities include inspecting new and revised tools and fixtures to assure compliance, and preparing layout and calibration documentation.
Responsibilities- Position and measure specified dimensional features of selected casting, dies, wax molds, and fixtures, and verify dimensional integrity using CMM machines and conventional measuring equipment.
- Identify and interpret casting dimensions on blueprints.
- Construct three-dimensional plane coordinates for measurement reference as defined on blueprints.
- Perform mathematical calculations including technical math, analytic geometry, and trigonometry.
- Measure and record specified dimensions using CMMs and conventional equipment to verify dimensional integrity.
- Prepare and review layout reports describing all measurements taken.
- Compare and analyze measurements to customer requirements, PCC, and industry standards.
- Evaluate measurement data with Engineering Departments and identify probable causes of deviation.
- Inspect new and reprocessed tools and fixtures to assure compliance with dimensional specifications.
- Conduct source inspections at tooling and fixture vendors and review vendor inspection techniques to verify accuracy and completeness of vendor layout reports and inspections.
- Perform fixture calibrations and maintain complete records of calibration results.
- Create inspection programs, routines, macros, files, and reports; manipulate and direct data files.
- Use low‑level computer language and CMM operational codes to create part inspection programs, routines, database files, and customized printed reports.
- Manipulate ASCII and IGES files and direct data transmission to requesting departments.
- Generate inspection data using Computer Aided Drafting (CAD).
- Prepare inspection plans and create automated CMM inspection programs to inspect parts, wax patterns, or fixtures per customer specifications.
- Document CMM inspection program output and usage instructions.
- Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
- Safely operate all equipment and tools.
- Identify and report safety problems.
- Perform other tasks as directed.
- Mechanical measuring devices (e.g., calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, gauges, etc.)
- Hoist
- Rotary table
- Computer
- Coordinate Measuring Machine
- Additional training is provided on the job.
- Required courses as directed to remain current with technological advances.
- Required PCC courses (or equivalents) as determined by the hiring department: MT-31 Wax Pattern Technology, MT-32 Wax Casting Process, MT-33 Air and Vacuum Castings.
- Completion of the PCC Metrology Certification program; outside hires must certify to PCC Certification standard within 90 days of hire or an equivalent combination of classroom training and experience.
- Must meet all qualifications for Layout Inspector and have at least two years of experience as a Layout Inspector or equivalent.
- Documented ability to use Coordinate Measuring Machines, including a rotary table or indexing probe head.
- Documented ability to use off‑line computer programming equipment to program a Coordinate Measuring Machine.
- Ability to perform a variety of mathematical calculations, including technical math, analytical geometry, and trigonometry.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow specifications on Quality Control Manuals, technical specifications, blueprints, and drawings, with a thorough understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
