Job Summary

This recruitment is to fill one full‑time Laboratory Technician 1 position for the Food Innovation Center at Oregon State University (OSU). The role will reside in Portland, Oregon and support laboratory research and applied food product development with a focus on supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO₂) processing operations. Under close supervision, the incumbent will assist with standardized procedures, sample preparation, equipment operation, data recording, and basic laboratory maintenance to enable high‑quality, reproducible experimental work.

What We Require

One year of laboratory experience and high school courses in chemistry, biology, or mathematics; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. An Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science may substitute for the required experience.

What You Will Need
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and standard operating protocols.
  • Completion of a criminal history check and designation for a critical or security‑sensitive position.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Familiarity with supercritical CO₂ processing equipment or high‑pressure systems.
  • Exposure to food processing, pilot‑scale equipment, or ingredient characterization.
  • Experience with basic data organization, spreadsheets, or laboratory record systems.
  • Interest in applied food research and product development.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Position requires working in a laboratory environment with chemical and pressurized systems. Monthly travel is expected to the campus for running experiments. Must adhere to all safety and environmental protocols, and be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

Compensation

Hourly pay. Minimum salary $18.06; maximum salary $26.20. Pay period from 16th to 15th of the following month; pay date last working day of the month.
