Asbestos Analyst – Portland, OR
Eurofins Built Environment Testing is searching for an experienced Asbestos Analyst. The Analyst primarily performs bulk sample analysis using PLM for asbestos, prepares and analyzes environmental samples according to scientific methodology, and ensures compliance with company Quality Assurance programs and SOPs. The role requires data validation, LIMS entry, scheduling of sample workload, and proficiency with laboratory testing equipment. Discretion and judgment are exercised in operation, data review, and reporting.
Responsibilities- Prepare and analyze aerobiological and environmental samples for asbestos.
- Accurately enter and report analytical data using the LIMS.
- Perform independent data reviews of other analysts’ work.
- Analyze reference materials, proficiency samples, and other quality control samples.
- Maintain client service and provide technical support as needed.
- Assist the QA manager with development, implementation, and data collection of QA processes.
- Confirm lab results as required by client services personnel.
- Execute all analytical testing and QA-related tasks as needed.
- Assist in pursuing, receiving, and maintaining necessary laboratory accreditations.
- Maintain and update all necessary training and QA documents on site.
- Coordinate and manage projects according to rush status and due times for timely delivery.
- Assist co‑workers on analytical questions and participate in Lean initiatives.
- Follow company policies and procedures and ensure coworkers do the same.
- Manage and maintain inventory of re‑sale supply items and laboratory consumables, re‑ordering as needed.
- Dispose of analyzed samples as required.
- Provide training support for relevant analytical services.
- Recommend and coordinate sample transfer when necessary.
- Maintain laboratory stock culture and reference samples.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for errors and issues.
- Maintain equipment and coordinate serving of all laboratory equipment.
- Communicate available capacity to Regional Manager regularly.
- Support other departments within the lab as appropriate.
- Perform other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Supervisor/Manager.
- 0–1+ years of experience performing asbestos microscopy using a Polarizing Light Microscope (PLM).
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biology, geology, or a closely related science.
- Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
- Professional working proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking.
- Preferred: 8 units of Geology courses.
- Knowledge of general regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with computers, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills.
$21–$25 per hour, depending on level of experience and qualifications. Position is full‑time with possible weekends and overtime.
