Department Overview
The OHSU Knight Cancer Institute is a pioneer in personalized cancer treatment and research, led by Dr. Brian Druker, whose development of Gleevec transformed Chronic Myeloid Leukemia from a fatal disease to a manageable one and proved that targeted therapies can work. The institute focuses on precision oncology, the early detection, prevention, and treatment of cancer, and creating a welcoming and supportive environment for its caregivers, researchers, and support personnel.
Knight affiliates subscribe to three guiding principles: we are bold, we are supportive, and we work as a connected team in our fight to end cancer as we know it.
The primary mission of the Division of Oncological Sciences at OHSU's Knight Cancer Institute is to better understand cancer through basic, translational, and population-based research that improves cancer prevention, detection, and treatments for all. Our community of faculty, trainees, and staff brings together scientists from a broad range of disciplines and works collaboratively to advance innovation and translate discoveries from the lab into meaningful impacts for cancer patients and our community.
Every Knight Cancer employee is expected to embody our guiding principles:
- We act BOLDLY—Breakthroughs require pushing the boundaries of science, exploring new frontiers, and thinking differently
- We SUPPORT each other—Respect leads to trust, which leads to excellence
- We work as a CONNECTED team — We must leverage our collective brain power to conquer cancer because no one individual can do it alone
The Research Administrator 3 will possess an exceptional or singular command of a professional sphere of knowledge, perform research, and have primary leadership responsibilities consistent with the goals of the research program. The laboratory focuses on the study of women’s cancer, particularly ovarian cancer, and women’s health. The position will work with consortia and with complex prospective cohorts.
The Research Administrator 3 will substantially contribute to writing specific aims and scientific components of grants under the direction of the PI and collaborators, and will collaborate with the Lab Manager on non-scientific grant components including budgets, budget justifications, and timely submission. This position supports the PI in communication with key collaborators and funding agencies, provides oversight for data sharing and material transfer agreements, and contributes to scientific representation in national venues.
Working closely with the PI and Lab Manager, this position helps allocate work to research staff and set and monitor project milestones. The role includes contributing to data analysis and drafting scientific manuscripts and presentations for publication and dissemination. Additionally, the Research Administrator 3 supports the PI in managing financial budgets for funded grants and subcontracts in coordination with a research financial analyst and the Lab Manager.
Another function of this role is to serve as a key implementor for the data coordinating center at OHSU of a large consortium, facilitating grant submissions from consortium collaborators, driving new scientific relationships and directions, and supporting process improvement for managing projects, grants, data harmonization, and other consortium activities. The position also provides oversight to team members and serves as the primary contact for select grant-funded projects to ensure timely progress on aims.
The Research Administrator 3 holds shared responsibility with another senior team member for mentoring trainees and/or research personnel, with a particular emphasis on implementing research projects and writing, and must be actively engaged and accountable for the development of research-related deliverables.
