Department Overview

The Division of Pediatric Surgery directs a busy inpatient and outpatient clinical service both at Doernbecher Children's Hospital at OHSU and Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel. The pediatric surgery faculty members have special expertise in congenital abnormalities, single port surgery, antegrade continence enemas, congenital chest wall abnormalities, thoracoscopic repair of congenital diaphragmatic hernia, endoscopy (bronchoscopy, esophagoscopy, peritoneoscopy, and thoracoscopy), surgery for cancerous and noncancerous tumors, trauma surgery, neonatal minimal access surgery, and fetal surgery.

The Division of Pediatric Surgery is active in research and education, sponsoring a two-year ACGME accredited pediatric surgery fellowship program.

The primary objective of this position is to work collaboratively with clinical outcomes quality improvement projects, clinic, and hospital staff to provide services as assigned in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, clinical outcomes quality improvement projects, patient care, outreach, and public service. This position supports the Division of Pediatric Surgery by providing functional program direction, coordination, and monitoring.

Responsibilities include connecting medical students with clinical outcomes quality improvement projects opportunities, facilitating credentialing processes, maintaining REDCap database access for projects housed through OCTRI, creating optimized operational processes, and submitting and tracking Data Use Agreements (DUAs). Additionally, this role oversees the preparation, tracking, and shipping of biologic clinical outcomes quality improvement projects samples and guides protocols through the IRB approval process across central, OHSU, and Legacy IRBs.

The position serves as the site coordinator for multiple consortiums, attending coordinator meetings to provide updates and align local teams. Finally, this position fulfills the role of Oregon State Coordinator for the WRAP-EM grant project, managing regional pediatric disaster planning, resource dissemination, and grant sub-groups.

Function/Duties of Position

Disaster Project Management (WRAP-EM State Coordination): Acts as the Oregon State Coordinator for the Western Regional Alliance for Pediatric Emergency Management (WRAP-EM) grant, developing regional pediatric disaster planning and response capabilities that effectively match resources to needs for a catastrophic incident. Coordinates and disseminates resources, vets and schedules subject matter expert speakers for various WRAP-EM meetings, and contributes to quarterly WRAP-EM reports.

Tracks and records presentations and publications from WRAP-EM members, manages Education Group assistance requests, and actively networks and communicates with healthcare partners in Oregon and across WRAP-EM. Monitors and reports updates for the Rural Health Transformation Program, prepares agendas and materials for weekly Large Group WRAP-EM meetings, and works independently on specific projects, such as a comprehensive review of website resources.

Also represents OHSU for OHSU-specific WRAP-EM requests.

Program Monitoring & Clinical Outcomes Support: Conducts thorough monitoring of clinical outcomes quality improvement projects activities to ensure adherence to standards and operational protocols. Evaluates project timelines and prepares comprehensive updates for principal investigators and division leadership. Responsible for the accurate, efficient accrual, and documentation of data, including developing databases for the Division’s ongoing needs. Manages IRB submissions, prepares study-related regulatory documents across multiple sites, and creates consent documentation for active projects.

Program Coordination & Registry Management: Provides functional program coordination based on clinical outcomes quality improvement project protocols and institutional requirements.
