PRIMARY

PURPOSE

The Part Time Campus Safety Specialist within the Campus Safety Department reports directly to the Campus Safety Supervisor. This dual‑role position supports the safety and security of the Lewis & Clark College community by performing both officer and dispatcher duties, depending on departmental needs. When serving as an officer, this role ensures the security of campus property and community members through patrols, emergency response, and enforcement of policies.

When serving as a dispatcher, this role coordinates communication, dispatch operations, and administrative support to ensure timely and accurate responses to campus incidents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES Campus Safety Officer Duties Patrol and Security Operations
  • Conduct vehicle, foot, and bicycle patrols across campus to monitor safety conditions and ensure the security of buildings and grounds.
  • Monitor campus for suspicious activity, enforce college policies, and identify potential safety hazards.
  • Respond promptly to alarms (e.g., intrusion, fire, panic) and take appropriate action to address or elevate issues.
Emergency Response and First Aid
  • Provide first response to medical emergencies, administering first aid, CPR, and AED as needed.
  • Coordinate with emergency responders and campus personnel to ensure appropriate care and communication during crises.
  • Support emergency procedures during weather events, natural disasters, or hazardous material incidents.
Enforcement and Policy Adherence
  • Enforce campus policies related to safety, including conduct, substance use, and access control.
  • Investigate policy violations and criminal activity, such as theft or vandalism, documenting incidents clearly and accurately.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement and external agencies as needed.
Public Service and Campus Assistance
  • Escort students, employees, and visitors to enhance personal safety, especially during after‑hours events.
  • Provide assistance to visitors and community members, including unlocking buildings and assisting with vehicle issues.
  • Represent Campus Safety with professionalism and respect while providing customer service and public engagement.
Reporting and Documentation
  • Maintain accurate reports of incidents, safety violations, and emergency responses.
  • Complete daily activity logs and ensure information is submitted promptly through security software and communication systems.
Campus Safety Dispatcher Duties Dispatch and Communication
  • Dispatch Campus Safety personnel via radio in response to calls for service.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students, employees, and visitors, providing accurate directions and information.
  • Answer a multi‑line phone system and respond to emails in a timely and courteous manner, prioritizing calls based on urgency.
Customer Service and Support
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while interacting with campus community members and visitors.
  • Handle inquiries about parking, Campus Safety policies, and department services with professionalism.
  • Manage difficult situations calmly and respectfully, ensuring a positive and supportive experience.
  • Create and issue  for employees and students using campus  software.
Database and System Maintenance
  • Perform database checks and maintain accurate and timely records in Campus Safety systems.
  • Use various computer software systems to support department operations.
  • Troubleshoot and report basic system issues to maintain operational continuity.
Operational Readiness
  • Regularly monitor campus systems, alarms, and communication channels to ensure timely officer response.
  • Assist with office and dispatch area organization and cleanliness to maintain readiness and efficiency.
  • Perform related administrative and operational duties to support departmental success.
