Overview

Responsibilities- Book, interview, classify, and process adults in custody (AIC) into the facility; conduct searches of AIC.
- Release AIC from custody and return personal property.
- Count, control, and monitor AIC movement and activity in housing units, modules, cells, and open dormitory settings.
- Monitor suicidal AIC and provide counseling and coordination of medical services.
- Conduct security and welfare checks and link AIC with mental‑health services.
- Search jail areas for contraband and secure evidence.
- Escort AIC to events, court appearances, medical care, and other institutions.
- Assemble and monitor AIC for transports to and from other counties, state facilities, extraditions, and other locations.
- Supervise and monitor mealtimes, recreational activities, and work crews.
- Prepare daily work‑release logs, investigate violations, and document AIC behavior.
- Control violent or mentally ill AIC and prepare daily count and assignment sheets.
- Respond to backup calls for medical, assault, and other emergency situations; testify in court related to crimes committed in custody.
- Maintain security within the institution, oversee staff and public health and safety, manage keys, control rooms, panels, cameras, alarms, and video terminals.
- Assist AIC with personal records, accounts, grievances, social visits, and court proceedings; provide information and assistance regarding criminal cases to staff and the public.
- Communicate and coordinate with courts, records departments, medical staff, program staff, and other agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of two years of combined full‑time work, volunteer experience, military service, or education.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Age 21 or older.
- U.S. citizen or eligible for citizenship.
- Valid driver’s license by appointment.
- Pass a thorough background investigation covering criminal, civil, driving, military, educational, and employment history.
- Experience in public safety, social service, or security settings.
- Current certification as an Oregon DPSST Corrections Officer.
- Experience in a command structure organization.
- College‑level coursework from an accredited institution.
