Linfield University – Portland Campus

Position Summary

Linfield University is seeking a Security & Operations Specialist to help provide a safe, secure, welcoming, and well-functioning environment at our Portland campus.

This position combines campus safety and security responsibilities with administrative, facilities, and operational support for Portland Campus Operations. The Security & Operations Specialist serves as a visible and approachable presence on campus while supporting day-to-day functions such as visitor services, room scheduling, mail and deliveries, keys and access control, facilities work requests, campus upkeep, events, emergency preparedness, and other operational needs.

The successful candidate will be comfortable balancing customer service and administrative responsibilities with hands‑on facilities work and campus security duties. This position works collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, vendors, visitors, emergency responders, and other members of the Linfield community.

Primary Responsibilities Campus Operations & Facilities Support
  • Welcome campus visitors and vendors, assist with the visitor check-in process, and provide directions and information as needed.
  • Schedule classrooms, conference rooms, lounges, praxis sessions, and other campus spaces using the university's scheduling system.
  • Review, print, and post weekly room schedules for classrooms and conference rooms.
  • Receive, organize, and distribute campus mail, packages, and deliveries.
  • Routinely inspect and replenish first aid kits throughout campus.
  • Receive and process facilities requests through the online work order system and follow up to help ensure timely completion.
  • Assist the Director of Portland Campus Operations with the assignment, distribution, and retrieval of campus keys for employees and vendors.
  • Create and distribute replacement Linfield identification cards and temporary parking passes and troubleshoot student and employee access issues.
  • Adjust door-access schedules as authorized for events, holidays, and seasonal operational changes.
  • Assist with the distribution of textbooks to Portland campus students.
  • Support business continuity, campus operations, and appropriate elements of employee onboarding.
  • Assist the Portland Campus Operations team with hands‑on cleaning, upkeep, and basic maintenance tasks as needed, including general cleaning of the employee break room.
Events & Campus Support
  • Assist with coordination of special events, including space preparation and setup requirements.
  • Support internal and external events held on the Portland campus.
  • Participate in event preparation, setup and tear‑down, and cleanup following large activities.
  • Provide crowd control and traffic management support for university events.
  • Additional evening and weekend hours supporting Conference and Event Services may be available as approved.
Campus Safety & Security
  • Patrol campus by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot to promote a safe and secure environment, deter crime, and enforce university parking policies.
  • Conduct frequent checks of campus buildings and grounds and ensure facilities are appropriately secured after designated hours.
  • Contact individuals on university property who are not members of the Linfield community to determine whether they are guests or have appropriate business on campus.
  • Respond to calls for service and reports involving incidents, accidents, suspicious activity, and possible criminal activity.
  • Observe, document, and report suspicious or criminal activity.
  • Identify, document, and, when possible, correct fire and life‑safety hazards.
  • Use professional presence, communication, and verbal direction to appropriately address and de‑escalate situations.
  • Complete incident, investigation, and accident reports and conduct appropriate follow‑up investigations and interviews.
  • Secure evidence related to incidents when necessary.
