Employee. Work-out-of-Class Opportunity for ODOC and OCE employees only. The position is anticipated to last 12 months, though may be extended or decreased due to business need.
As a Correctional Sergeant, you will be a senior security staff member responsible for overseeing custody, control, supervision, and daily care of adults in custody while upholding the mission of the Department. You will serve as a lead worker, ensuring facility operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. You will supervise AICs during movement assignments, monitor high-security areas, and conduct security operations such as transports, searches, and emergency response.
In this role, you will also play a key part in staff development, assisting in training and potentially mentoring subordinate staff as a Field Training Officer (FTO). You will lead by example, modeling professionalism, accountability, and behaviors that support rehabilitation efforts.
- Two (2) years of experience in a correctional security setting where your primary duties were the care and custody of AICs;
- Be able to obtain, within two weeks, an Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Correctional Certificate OR a Correctional Certificate from another government agency;
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED certificate;
- Be 21 years of age or older;
- United States Citizen;
- Education will not be accepted as a substitute for the required experience.
