Portland, OR Job Type: Full-Time | Field-Based Role Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 + overtime and benefits
We are working with a global telecoms infrastructure specialist delivering high-performance connectivity solutions across hyperscale, carrier and enterprise environments. Due to continued growth across the US market, they are now looking to appoint experienced Field Technicians to support deployment and first‑line maintenance activities across critical telecoms and data centre environments.
This is a hands‑on technical role suited to engineers who thrive in live environments, understand SLA‑driven delivery, and take pride in quality workmanship.
The RoleAs a Field Technician, you will support both new build deployments and reactive maintenance activities, working across fibre, copper, and active network infrastructure. You will be responsible for delivering high standards of installation, testing, fault resolution, and documentation while maintaining strict compliance with safety and quality protocols.
What you'll be doing- Fiber pulling, dressing, labelling and containment installation
- Fiber and copper termination (Cat6/6A, E1 and related standards)
- Installation of cable management systems, basket, ladder rack and metalwork
- Rack and stack services and basic hardware installation
- OTDR testing and fiber fault diagnosis
- Ethernet/OSA testing and performance validation
- Testing and certification using Fluke, Viavi, EXFO or equivalent
- 240v AC and
-48v DC connectivity (plug and play only, no power‑up until certified) - First Line Maintenance support across customer networks
- Hardware replacement and fault resolution with TAC support
- Commissioning support to “green light and connectivity” level
- Completion of documentation within SLA
- Participation in on‑call rota where required
- Adherence to SHEQ and engineering quality standards
- Proven hands‑on experience building telecoms infrastructure from design plans
- Strong structured cabling background (Comm Scope, AFL, Panduit, Corning or similar)
- Experience using fiber test equipment and certification tools
- Exposure to network commissioning and transmission systems
- Familiarity with vendors such as Ciena, Nokia, Juniper, Cisco, Infinera or Huawei
- Understanding of optical transmission, IP networking, WAN/LAN environments
- Ability to work independently while meeting strict SLAs
- Strong communication and reporting skills
- Comfortable operating in live, fast‑paced environments
