Role Overview

The Pre-Engineered Systems Technician is responsible for inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of pre-engineered fire suppression systems in commercial and institutional occupancies. This role requires deep technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while supporting and training less-experienced technicians.

You are a frontline representative of Metro Safety & Fire, Inc. and a steward of our reputation with clients, AHJs, and industry partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections, testing, service, and repairs on pre-engineered fire suppression systems.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, manufacturer requirements, and local AHJ expectations.
  • Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions with confidence and clarity while citing code and manufacturer specifications.
  • Accurately document inspections, deficiencies, and repairs using company software.
  • Serve as a technical resource for technicians and leadership.
  • Communicate professionally with clients regarding system condition and compliance.
  • Coordinate complex jobs with Dispatch and Service & Repair teams.
  • Maintain test equipment, tools, and company vehicle to professional standards.
  • Take full ownership of assigned work from start to close-out.
  • Support Metro’s education-first approach by explaining systems, codes, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with pre-engineered fire suppression systems.
  • Active ICC certification(s) related to fire suppression systems (FE, FK, & FN).
  • Strong working knowledge of NFPA standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and self-direction.
Bonus Qualifications
  • NICET certification (any level).
  • Experience mentoring or training technicians.
  • Strong written documentation skills.
