Description
We are seeking a hands-on, self-directed Trailer Repair Technician to support our growing trailer division. This position splits time between performing on-site DOT inspections and light trailer repairs in the field and completing trailer repair and fabrication work in the shop.
This is not an automotive mechanic role. The focus of this position is trailer systems, including brakes, air lines, suspension components, wiring, landing gear, and structural steel repairs.
This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable working independently, diagnosing issues in the field, and performing a mix of mechanical repair and fabrication work. If you enjoy problem-solving and working both in the shop and on customer sites, this is a great opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
Field Service Responsibilities (2-3 Days per Week)
- Perform DOT trailer inspections at customer locations
- Adjust brakes and replace brake chambers
- Diagnose and repair air line leaks and fittings
- Replace ABS sensors and related wiring components
- Troubleshoot and repair trailer lighting systems
- Perform minor suspension and landing gear repairs
- Document inspection findings and prepare clear repair notes and estimates
- Perform trailer structural repairs, including crossmembers, rails, and floors
- Replace or repair suspension components and landing gear assemblies
- Diagnose and repair trailer wiring and lighting systems
- Perform light fabrication and welding work
- Assist with general trailer repair and maintenance alongside the shop team
- Experience with trailer repair or fleet trailer maintenance preferred
- Welding, fabrication, or mechanical repair experience
- Ability to diagnose mechanical issues independently in the field
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate professionally with drivers and customers
- Comfortable working without constant supervision
- Ability to document work clearly and accurately
- Trailer repair or fleet maintenance experience
- Welding or fabrication work
- Farm equipment, heavy equipment, RV repair, or field service experience
- Mechanical roles requiring independent troubleshooting
- Combination of field service work and shop-based repairs
- Regular travel to customer sites for inspections and minor repairs
- Industrial shop environment with active trailer repair operations
- Work performed under trailers and around heavy equipment
- Team-oriented environment with a strong focus on quality and safety
- Competitive hourly wage based on experience
- Opportunity for training in DOT inspection procedures, air brake systems, and ABS diagnostics
- Stable full-time position with long-term career potential
- Hands-on role with strong autonomy and responsibility
- Supportive team environment within a respected trailer repair division
